Kang Daniel is the fastest Kpop act to rise and fall

Changed the title of the thread from “Kang Daniel is the fastest Kpop act go rise and fall” to “Kang Daniel is the fastest Kpop act to rise and fall”.
  • Don't think it was the dating thing, he was still selling really well after they broke up. He did loads of big hosting gigs, radio, webshows, tv series even his own documentary. I think the scandals after Jihyo hurt him alot more, the ones involving SMF/SWF, his lawsuit, his skills or lack of, the rigging of produce (literally everyone bar series 1 with somi caught strays) and a bunch of others I forgot about.

I think he just didn't have the industry connections to keep his name in the news with all the new groups debuting to keep growing his fanbase and keep competition from other male idols at bay, his fans were there, all in their 20's-40's it just too many new groups debuted and were competing with him, and since he had a company to build and acts to rep for (Yuju and CL for Korea only), he wasn't 100% focused on his own career and advertising what he was doing. I think his career is going to be fine when he is out the military, its just debatable if he has the money to open his own agency again considering the silent way it closed.

  • Man got a bit too ambitious and got his way out of his old company. Now he built his own company, but it's not as easy as Kpop fans make it out to be.

Are his fans still around? No one really knows his songs, but people said he still has a big fanbase, and he had that MC gig, but it feels like the hype died down significantly.

  • I still enjoy his music

  • but it's not as easy as Kpop fans make it out to be.

That's because 99% of Kpop fans are delusional and don't know Jack about business. Running your own company especially an entertainment company is very hard work especially if you are the artist and the CEO being a idol and wearing multiple hats is beyond stressful

  • They made their relationship public on Aug 2019. And in November of 2020 they broke up.

    Daniel’s Korean sales summary:

    • 2019: 500,134 copies sold
    • 2020: 603,961 copies sold
    • 2021: 320,114 copies sold
    • 2022: 404,261 copies sold
    • 2023: 171,552 copies sold

If you want a breakdown of his sales.

After he was in a lawsuit with his former company, his acting in the drama ‘Rookie Cops’ being criticized and flopping, he had his skills controversy, SWF controversy and his private messages being leaked where movie and drama fans were getting mad at him.

So Jihyo isn’t to blame. And I think 0ppar is right with LYW snatching his ahjumma fans. Because remember, Daniel had big ahjumma following. LYW popularity exploded sometime in 2020 after Mr. Trot.

  • What's about him and somi? Is it same somi 'fast forward' song lady?

She is, basically they were both centres aka the top voted idols for produce. Somi was series 1, KD series 2.

When the vote rigging scandal happened the producer admitted to rigging all 4 series with IOI being the lightest. They only rigged out 2 people in the first round of voting, but with all 3 other series, they rigged out people who would should have been the final group. There is a full list available but the courts decided not to reveal who was rigged into the groups though plenty of speculation is about who replaced who and pretty much everyone in the debuted groups caught strays. Izone were hit hard and X1 was fully disbanded. It was wild, they debuted August, scandal dropped November and they were disbanded by January. 5 months instead of 5 years.

Either selected candidates would have a powerful company backing them up or deep pockets of their own or a very good fabricate-able (I don't think thats a word) sob story, all reality shows I saw till now always favours sob story instead of actually talented individuals.

The first two but mostly the first, I don't remember any good sob storys making it far. Companies needed the exposure for their idols and wanted to go back and debut them in their own groups. Remember there were 101 trainees, not everyone would get good camera time which meant alot were just filler and some were gotten rid of due to political reasons. For example, with the one that made izone, the japanese idols had prebuilt fandoms but the korean ones had the talent but few japanese members ended up debuting.

I remember one who debuted who trained for years saying they told her to pretend to be bad at dancing so they could make her improve over the show.

Wasn't Kang Daniel a potential sob story candidate (not saying he is not talented or anything)? I am some idea about it because someone I know used to have his huge poster on their wall. They told me he had single mother parent and some hardwork and scammed shenanigans, don't exactly remember what it was as then i wasn't interested in kpop, but his name is very easy to remember so I sort of remember it.

I remember most of the discourse around him being 'OMG hes so hot and he can dance and sing what an ace' rather than the mom thing but that may have been a storyline too.
