Where Blackpink are hard-hitting and badass, NewJeans are bubbly and fun. It's just interesting to see how two completely different girl groups are also both the most globally popular of their generation.

A lot of people assumed that hard hitting concepts would do better in the West but it doesn’t seem to entirely be the case.

Doesn’t TWICE have the billboard record for US pure sales? I think the West is more open to a variety of different concepts.

It’s all about sticking to what you’re good at. For Blackpink, it’s hip hop. For NewJeans, it’s UK garage.

They might branch out here and there, but they generally stick to what traditionally works for them.

I think they're simply just are a reflection of which sounds were most popular during the time they blew up. When BP blew up the dominant sound in the West was mostly hip-hop/trap hard-hitting stuff which was in line with what BP was serving. Now Y2K & jersey club/UK garage are having their moment which isn't far off from what NewJeans have been offering

lately. It's all about being on top of trends, getting to them first and being able to market it in a unique and interesting way.

If we're talking about sound, album sales doesn't always mean the music. Twice's songs do poorly in the US.
