  • I'm not that surprised.

As someone mentioned in the video, Japan has a very rich prostitution culture. They have hostesses (plenty of sugar babies), soap lands (which are basically just Japanese bathhouses with prostitutes), and straight up brothels.

It's funny that a culture with such an extensive and public sex work industry is also known to have the largest decline in birth rates and increase in sex less relationships, or maybe...that's precisely why that's the case.

Also, I saw a lot of foreigner men taking this as their cue to go to Japan, but sorry to say, there is still some inherent xenophobia in Japan from what I have seen foreigners who live in Japan mention on YouTube. Foreigners are not even allowed in soap lands. The same opportunities that are afforded to Japanese men will not be afforded to some regular degular foreign Joe in town to visit Akihabara.

"Japan is known for their prostitution" what the actual fuck? IF MY BF WOULD DO THIS I WOULD STRAIGHT UP BRING HIM TO THE RECYCLING STATION (it's free, right? if not, his parents have to pay).

  • There are plenty of people in Japan who don't see prostitution as cheating, but I'm pretty sure it's a minority. I think the responses here are a mix of cherry picking for the most extreme answers, a bit of mistranslation, and a cultural issue.

The cultural issue is that in Japan, many people will just agree with whatever response the first person gives, even if they're lying in doing so.

The mistranslation is that the word he used actually means "adult entertainment", not just prostitution. It does include prostitution, but also things like strip clubs, host/hostess clubs, cabarets, night clubs, and even pachinko parlors (which is a sort of cross between an arcade and a casino). Obviously nobody would think of a pachinko parlor when thinking of cheating, but many might think of a strip club or a host/hostess club (neither of which typically involve sex). Some of these girls may well have been thinking "I guess I don't really mind if he goes to look at or talk to pretty girls, as long as he doesn't do anything with them".
