Is It Just Me, Or Does BTS TAEHYUNG Solo "Debut" Feel Lacking & Not As Hyped???

  • Both JK and Tae released what they wanted to release. Tae's style is sultry mood music flavored with jazz and R&B. JK, by his own admission, wants to be a huge pop star and loves pop music - like Beiber. So guess what each released? Tae - chill arthouse style R&B tracks. JK - viral-sounding catchy general public friendly banger.

What type of music dominates the charts? Yea, it's not the arthouse vibe.

  • Min Hee Jin is in charge of Tae's entire album and rollout, so people blaming Big Hit for the marketing plan are just shooting at air. This is what she does with Newjeans too, is what Newjeans stans tell us, drop music videos with minimal notice and follow this kind of strategy. OP who wanted MHJ to take charge of BTS solos should not complain now.

    accurate

  • I never had huge commercial expectations for Tae, but I did hope the release would have a little more build-up and mystery around it. What happened with those Jon Batiste meetings?

I expect the EP to sell well, I just would be surprised if it has a hit song. I can't imagine that's even his goal in this release.

To me, JK was always going to be the one to launch a huge pop career because he's made it clear he desires it. Jimin had the potential too with LC and hopefully he'll get another chance...sigh.

also I been hearing rumors about Tae meeting with Lady GaGa too for a collaboration.

what do you think about that, if it happens?

you think it'll do really well and get the "push" since it's her or no?

I'm finding it hard to believe this EP will feature collabs -- maybe I'm wrong! Gaga's reach is definitely powerful but it's not a guarantee the label would put $ behind it to give a sustained push (either BH or her side.)

maybe they just talked about music. Suga hanged out with logic in his (logic's) studio and we all thought they would collab which didn't happen. Talking about music and sharing experience with each other is also good

  • First of all, I think people need to release the expectation that every BTS solo is going to perform similarly. Each of the members has their own unique musical identity, which is part of why they are so interesting as a group. I trust that each of them will find the audience that appreciates what they bring to the table-- some people who enjoy Indigo for example may have no interest in Jungkook's mainstream pop, and that's okay.

Taehyung always had a recognizable musical identity. His solo songs tend to be slow, emotional ballads. People who already love songs like Winter Bear will probably enjoy his album a lot, but I don't think chart-busting bops are what he's aiming for.

Secondly (and this is just my opinion), I don't think Min heejin's style of releasing music goes well with army's consuming habits. For example, releasing the MV a few days before the song was on all music platforms may have lost him momentum on Spotify, Kcharts etc.

But in any case, I think it's frustrating that K-pop stans sometimes put more emphasis on chart performance than actually taking the time to savor and enjoy the music. Some of my favorite artists ever will never have a BB #1 song or album, but that doesn't ruin my enjoyment of their music. So maybe relax and worry about charts a little less!

exactly. None of the albums/songs they've released so far sounds similar. Astronaut, indigo, d-day, jack in the box, face, and seven, all sounds differently. Some of the songs i listen, some not because they are not my style of music. And that's great, there's something for everyone.

As for charts, I'm always clueless there. I personally don't care about them. Whenever i look at top 30 i realize i like nothing lol. I'm sure that tae doesn't care about charts, if he did he would have done things differently. Yes, he will be happy if it charts well but he will be fine even if he doesn't
