Netflix "One Piece" Live Action Official Trailer (feat. Mackenyu)

Ngl, it doesn't look bad? Like, I'm usually the 1st to rag on live action anime adaptations with a non-Japanese leading cast after that whole Dragon Ball Evolution deal, but this doesn't look unwatchable? And the acting seems decent. Almost even good?

I'm not a One Piece fan though (like at all), so maybe that's why this is passable for me.

Interested to see how the real One Piece fans feel?

I never watched it, but the CGI or whatever they used to animate Ryuk looked really bad lol.

That's the main issue with anime live actions for me. They can't make CGI that lives up to the visuals, and also the costumes and hair designs always come out looking lame.

The whole premise of death note relied on Kira being a super charismatic psychopath who was great at using his charms to manipulate people

In live action he was a reject that got bullied

the whole story line just falls apart its stupid

Kenshin is the only anime live action that is good

Welp, like I said, I'm not a One Piece fan anyway so the chances of me watching this are about a 2/10, but my bff is huge fan and will definitely watch. Maybe I'll wait for his verdict before deciding.

wouldn't call myself a fan anymore but used to watch one piece a lot and honestly just thought it was one of those anime that would be impossible to make into live action with how animated the series is but so far from the trailer it doesnt look that bad? the luffy actor is somewhat selling the persona but the other characters and some of the scenes do look somewhat ridiculous

Like, with a name like Luffy, it's obvious he's probably not Japanese in the traditional sense, but I had no idea that there were some nationalities in mind when creating the characters.

Maybe that's why this doesn't look as jarring to me as other live action anime adaptions with foreign casts.

I wondered why Luffy had an accent. Makes sense now.
