I've seen that graph going around but it basically all comes down to what each side considers as being a "fan". For Korean fans it means financial investment, aka fanclub membership and so on. For i fans it is merely "I like this group and stream their song". This is where you get those numbers from. If kfans also counted all groups they like and stream, then situation wouldn't be much different.
Most k fans stanning only one group while most i fans stanning multiple groups isn't what you think it is

This makes sense

I'm inclined to believe kfans doesn't even stream any group besides their faves actually. Maybe they do listen casually if they like a song, but definitely not in the same way as iFans who listen constantly their favorite groups
The reason why I think this because idol groups catalog is REALLY abysmally in terms of streams, once the song left the top 100 the GP really stop to listen them, which is okay, GP only listen the top 100 anyways.
However if kpop groups had a healthy number of casual fans (listen to them, but do not purchase their albums, attend concerts and buy merchan) their catalog streams would be much stronger
So yeah, iFans stan multiple = Buy albums from one, two, or none, but consistently stream a lot all their faves
Kfans stan only one = Literally only buy and listen to one group and is top 100 listener of other groups

Ugh, the definition of "fan" for koreans is sick. This looks more like an abusive job rather than a hobbie. Sad

Who do you think GP is tho? Like for example Ive gets 500k listeners on Melon. Lets say 1/10 of it(and I am being generous) are hardcore fans. Whom the rest of the so called GP are comprised of? Some aunties? Nah, idol music is consumed by idol fans

Some aunties?
Yes. I don't know if there is still a way to see the artist listeners demography on Melon, it was possible a couple of years ago, but surprisingly most of girl groups listeners were people above 30, 50-50 male/female. The group of people over 40 also used bigger than the group of 10-20
This highly imply their listeners were not fans, but random users using Melon top 100 playlists
When a group is more nugu (don't chart at all in top 100) their listeners are more skewed towards female audience and the group age of 10s or 20s
That's why I think in Korea fans only listen their one favorite group (or two, if they are fans of two). They don't listen other groups regularly, except when they are browsing the top 100 playlist. And definitely stop listen once they leave the top 100

Hmm, interestingly I remember those graphs but I don't remember them looing like that. I could be wrong tho, not gonna argue, it was long time ago.
