With NewJeans' success, Somi could finally take over as top soloist in 2023

  • Somi has been looking for her sound for almost four years now, but it has always been obvious.

Her voice suits an easy-listening RnB sound. Somi gets it, since that's what she has always been making for her self-written songs, like 'Outta My Head'. Teddy has never released a single with that style, though.

Now that NewJeans has made it very clear that the public is into easy-listening RnB, Teddy might finally focus on Somi's strength for her next single. Maybe even bring in a specialist in the genre to collaborate with... like Pink Sweats who ironically worked on 'XOXO', which is outside his style.

It would come out at just the right time as well, when the public is primed for the genre (assuming some time this year... Teddy).

  • I've been begging for BP to do R&B in general for years. Somi, like you said, should as well. Somi should release anything in general. Just let her do something already, TBL. Her co produced stuff like Outta My Head and Watermelon song are so good. Ready for more easy listening r&b songs.

  • I don't think
it the song is the main
    selling pts of Newjeans

    especially
I believe Newjeans debut song hype
    just carry their comeback song

and the reason most fans into newjeans
    their teenager lineup
add or bring fresh youth vibes aura into their song/MV

I prefer Somi in a group to have more song/MV or comeback

  • Her doing rnb doesn't secure successz her most popular song is far from that as it relies in a catchy phrase and dance

I'm thinking an upbeat RnB with a danceable beat, like some of NewJeans's stuff, that's why I brought them up.

TBL producers focus on the beat, bring in someone like Pick Sweats to focus on the melody, and let Somi write with help from Pick Sweats and the other producers. That should create something similar in genre to Somi's other self-written stuff but catchier and more professional.

They just released a great song with Vibe (which is definitely going to rocket up the charts), I know they have it in them.

  • The songs definitely are.

They are very radio-friendly, which is something kpop usually doesn't focus on relative to the West.

Actually, NewJeans's promotions are much more like Western promos, with way more focus on Spotify playlisting and touring radio stations than YouTube or other social media.

  • you're undermining the production team of NJs. Making a good song isn't easy. And YG/Black label aren't very good at it.

They produced a top 10 single on Somi's last album. With further refinement focusing on Somi's strengths, a top 5 seems completely reasonable.
