I've asked this question too and it would seem that had remnants of the old 10 year contracts

(aka forced to sign the 10 year SM contract that's a little bit illegal but technically not)
I was wondering the same thing...Isn't it illegal to have a K-entertainment industry surpassing 7 years? It may just have been that all members renewed and no one said a thing. But then again, I have no idea how SM contracts work...to this day, I still don't understand them...

I hypothesize that it's 7 years + 3 years extension, if you don't sign the extension you can't sign the normal 7, but I have no evidence to back this up

SM is actually the reason contracts can't surpass 7 years lmao.
From what I remember, members of TVXQ sued SM because they were basically forced to sign this ridiculously long contract, and they wanted out of it. Not sure how many years but people have referred to SM contracts as slave contracts.
The courts agreed with TVXQ and made it so that contracts can't be more than 7 years, but the rumor is that SM works around that by making newly debuting idols sign a 7 year contract as well as the 3 year extension at the same time. Which means, the idol is signing 2 separate contracts, but it's pretty much locking them into SM for 10 years.
This is the reason why people suspect SM groups always "renew". They were already forced to sign on for 3 additional years before they even debuted.

Looks like it. They didn't even bother making an announcement. Don't think they did for exo at the 7 year mark either
That’s because EXO’s contracts are 10 years and they spoke about that on variety shows too. Don’t ask why EXO still have slave contracts that should have ended but it’s SM
Not sure about RV tho.

Ah, the extension would make sense...I thought the extension was issued like right before the actual contract expires...? 😳
It makes me wonder if Twice only signed for an extension now
-
Yeah that's what I mean. They dropped the pretenses for it after Soshi.
Likely gonna be silent for NCT and Soshi too

Oh, I heard about something like that and how that group is one of the longest standing ones in KPOP. But yeah, that's crazy...and the user before you told me about the extension as well but that's so strange...
SM's contracts have always been really strange and if the 3 year extension thing is true, then they really broke the system without breaking the rules, huh?
Evil geniuses...

True that could be it as well
Could be, I did wish we knew the years for renewal contracts and shit

I think shinee confirmed they were renewing at the 7 year mark. Not sure what’s really true lol. I’d actually assume RV signed back tbh since they didn’t mention anything
With EXO we knew 2022 was their contract year because we saw Kris/luhan/Tao’s contract stipulations when they left lol. And exo later confirmed it.

Yep. But like I said, I still don't understand SM's way of doing contracts
Same tbh...I mean, we all know the 7 year length because it's the most allowed by law for full-length groups and ofc, we know that temporary groups exist. But afterwards is sort of unexplored territory...

Who does
Shows how much work we still need to do to make sure idols have basic worker rights...

Yeah, exactly...it's really sad to think about...but it's the sad reality 😞
