How does Ateez sell millions of album when their streams are so low?

  • No hate to Ateez I’m just curious. Ateez sell a million for their comeback but their streams are very low. Their title track has fewer streams than NewJeans’s least streamed song from debut album. Their title is out of top 500 on Melon. I mean all other million seller groups still do decently on Spotify even if they’re not smashing. Like StayC oustreams Ateez everywhere but sell like 200K. How does Ateez sell so much when it seems no one listen to them?

  • They are fandom supported. BG fandoms are mostly teenage girls who rabidly buy several copies of albums to support their faves. The GP doesn't know who they are.

  • Maybe most of the sales come from China?

And no casual listeners. Like most boy groups, i guess

  • I think guerrilla not much liked by casuals and some part of the fandom. But they have big fandom. They have touring numbers to back that. While the girlgroups u have mentioned has lots of casuals but when it comes to touring they can't pull numbers ATEEZ pull.

  • Because sales are purely fandom ( including massbuying). Ateez doesnt have public relevance in Korea and no one cares about them besides their fandom

  • let's not act like that's not literally how every 4th gen bg works??

all sell millions, but have noticable bad streams - just because one group does slightly better, isn't a reason to only call out one group?

if you want to know why 4th gen bgs seem to work that way; i think it's because fans don't actually listen to their music. their fans often buy the albums in bulk - no matter if they like the music or not - because they feel like they MUST support the group. most 4th gen gg have a lot of casual fans, so their music must be good in order for casuals to spend money, which is why they have sales + streams.

  • Isnt it same for other groups? Ask some causal kpop listener to name one song of skz.

SKZ and TXT are among the top 10 most streamed kpop artists on Spotify.

  • Ateez fans don’t like their songs that much but like their visuals from photo cards more. Otherwise, why wouldn’t they listen to Ateez’s music?

  • why target just ateez when the spotify global streams of million seller acts like nct dream, aespa, etc are so bad

nct dream charts high in Korea at first, which shows they have a big Korean fandom. Same with NCT 127. Aespa has hits in Korea too. Also, all their songs manage to get > 30M streams on Spotify at least. Ateez charts outside top 500 on Melon, their comeback song has 19M streams (by comparison Nmixx song comes out later already have 30M streams), which show Ateez don’t even have a big fandom in Korea or internationally. Every other group show that they have a big fandom somewhere, but not Ateez, so where do they get the sales?

  • Gaon/Circle counts every single album no matter what country it's sold in. There is no streaming chat similar to it. You can only look at different sites individually and then not even all of them.

But for the record Ateez has over 1 billon Spotify streams. And while StayC may have some title tracks with more streams, Ateez has b sides on an album that came out less than 4 months ago with better streams than the b side StayC released 2 years ago. ;judgingpepe:

Their visuals not that good though. Too much makeup and very idol plastic looking. It’s probably more people who want to root for an underdog group and think they are the next BTS because their trajectory is similar or whatever.

  • I wonder why people are onty focusing on ateez when there are groups who sold more than them that are not even in the top groups here:

    this

i'm not even an ateez fan, but seeing 4th gen (boy)groups act like all of these group aren't in the same boat is just ridiculous to me? sure, one might do slightly better on certain platforms than others, but in the end it's pretty much a mid off - in the big picture of the music/kpop industry.

one of the best measurements of succes is tour capacity since that's something you can't really manipulate. most of 4th gen is doing the same capacity, so why do a comparison?
