How did TWICE churn out more successful soloists than BTS?

  • It's not like Twice are respected artists

    Approved the thread.
  • Twice are women. Girl groups will always take priority over boy groups when it comes to the general populace. BTS was a boy group mostly carried by their insane fandom.

  • Blinks trying to get other GG dragged, there goes the fake feminist card again

You are not fooling anyone :clown:

  • Too hurried conclusion with very little data.

Nayeon is probably the most popular member of Twice.

J-hope is not the most popular member of BTS.

POP was promoted well by JYPE.

JiTB, HYBE probably told "Solo?- go Do It Yourself"

That said, in K-pop female soloists do far better than male soloists.

IU/Taeyeon/Chungha/Sunmi/Somi.... long list.. men - Kang Daniel and who else?

But yes, BTS did overcome many traditional trends of Kpop, so there was an expectation that J-hope will blow up.

That did not happen, still JiTB is by no means a flop. It still did better than 99% of the industry.

So we will see how things unfold in the future.

  • Hobi promoted his album on his instagram, 2 radio shows, 2 YT shows, a party that he threw, and most of that well after his album came out. Also he headlined one of the most well known festivals in the world, Lollapalooza. He is the first Korean artist to headline a major US festival. So he is doing just fine. Just be grateful that HYBE is sabotaging BTS because your faves would look so much worse compared to Hobi if he had a proper debut.

  • BTS maknae line have enormous streams on their album solos ,OSTs and have really good charting on kcharts ,international charts and all of this are without them debuting as a solo artist yet. Plus jhope is like the floppiest member of BTS but he sold out a festival with 100k+ audience at his pit. So i say wait for the maknae line to debut before talking shii and setting up twice like this.

  • Don't set her up like this.

Hobi's 2nd mixtape (which turned to be solo debut) was HIGHLY anticipated, what hybe did to it is unforgivable but he still managed to do amazingly well.

Her whole album just recently reached 100M, from which 74M is one song so basically people don't stream anything except for title. While Hoseok got 200M in 45 days from which 74M is MORE, 48M is Arson while other 78M are for bsides from which all have 9-10M at least except for Intro and Music Box understandably but even they got 7M and 8M respectively. Hoseok is an album artist which is also a problem cause people stream it all and can't focus on one song.

Also BTS fandom has too many new releases to focus on in between of which Hoseok's solo debut was squeezed which also affected streaming of his release in a bad way, while what else Twice fandom had to stream new when she has been promoting?

Most importantly: her release is typical kpop release, easy and fun pop song which was very well promoted and pushed while he did a complete 180 to anything kpop and push for Hoseok's release was as bad as it could be. No playlisting, no physicals, no radio, he hasn't even promoted it. What he got? Few youtube interviews? Few interviews for magazines? One performance on hobiplooza few weeks after actual debut? Hobipalooza was legendary and numbers went up after it, which is showcasing, but one performance is definitely not enough. Music like Hoseok's is not easy, it needs time to grow into people, it needs proper promo and it needs this promo to be long.

In conclusion: just be grateful that hybe sabotaged him.

  • Only one example used for each group. Anecdotal evidence at best.

  • I think it's because individually, twice are more talented. I think bts works well in a group but not so much by themselves.

Sorry but I got to disagree, Twice are probably known for their dance as a group, but vocals and rap? not so much. They are known more as a group, rather than known individually.

  • Why the OP post when there's only 1 member in Twice who became a soloist

  • The excuses. Nayeon title track is good pop song. Also she is one of the most popular members of twice.

  • Blink making a thread to shade both BTS and Twice

  • GD, Taeyang, Mino, Taemin.

  • GD, Taeyang, Mino, Taemin.

The validity of that statement is only when the group itself is not active.

Otherwise the soloists still benefit from group popularity.

SNSD was inactive for the last 5-6 years until recently, IOI has disbanded.

Whereas BigBang and Shinee while not as active, haven't entered official hiatus.

Secondly G-D is a different case, he is like Soyeon with GIDLE .. or Hyuna with 4minute.. so ..

And other than GD, the male solos from group rarely transcend fandom i.e. physical sales, but not the digital top tier.

But hey if it happens, I am not complaining.

It is just that do far women soloists have done better in K-pop. More consistent etc

  • Oh, understood!!

  • The most popular member of Twice vs the least popular in BtS

also Nayeon was just lucky that her dance move went viral. Had it not her song would have experienced the same fate as Talk That Talk

Talk that talk is doing better than jhope everywhere

  • i don't know what's more funny in this thread

    people taiking OP bait

    or

people in the comment attacking Blink for a thread that they don't know who make it and baiting people to attack blink by doing this

  • You also left out the fact that JITB is not your usual pop album. It’s not a sound that appeals to the gp

  • the erasure of Taeyang though. He won a daesang for his song Eyes, Nose, Lips. TOP also did well for his one solo

  • The GP doesn't give a damn about male idols and k-army didn't support his debut

  • Talk that talk is performing similar to pop. Both will end up bigger than any jhope song

    thats a lie

the fact that this is the latest update of the charts from a twice account shows after 7 8 9 10 pm the song went down pretty fast like every day and still 31 on melon for a popular group is a total flop

    I don't accept the argument.

    Every underperformer can claim that.

And there no "set in stone" formula for GP taste, it keeps shifting and changing, and it is a range.

One can say that great artists set the taste/trend for the GP. Whatever they put out appeals to the GP.

That's not the case with JiTB. So be it.

Artists take a risk each time, Whether their choice of sound will appeal or not, if they use existing trends then that might have shifted, if they use newer sounds, then GP might still be on the older trend etc

    Nobody can guarantee..

Let's not insult the artist and the audience, with such weak reasoning. They know the risks, and even if they underperform, it is still honorable to risk each time.
