If a group can't generate hype anymore they are over?

I have to say I agree with that.

Yep. In think they are a good example there. The difference is they now have a fandom. Even if its small in numbers its potent enough to generate some profit. Also having less expenses than big company groups helps there.

If individual members within a group start to believe in their own individual hype more than the group, the group is over. Not naming names, but they were already mentioned.

i mean as long as they still sell well(album sales) they got money coming in so hype is pretty secondary
