What's your stance on plastic surgery discussions?

  • Personally, I don't like discussing topics like that, but different K-pop fans have their own thoughts on it. At least that's what I noticed when seeing these threads over time. There was even a megathread regarding plastic surgeries where arguments often happened.

Regarding these discussions, the viewpoint is usually one of the following:

    A. "Plastic surgery should be normalized, so we should talk about it regardless of who the person is."

    B. "It's disrespectful and intrusive to speculate or talk about anyone's cosmetic procedures."

    C. "My favorites never had plastic surgery. Implying that my favorites had plastic surgery means you're shading them!"

    D. B and C

    E. "Plastic surgery should be normalized, so we should talk about it except for when the person is a minor."

There's usually a mixed bag of opinions about this just like when discussions about idols' dating lives take place. What are your thoughts?

  • I would love to be able to have discussions about it here like they do in ***hallyu since I've seen so much insightful posts over on that thread there and it opens up a good discussion on how companies handle plastic surgery, especially in 4th gen where we're seeing a lot more faces debuting already done because of the value that's being placed on visuals so much in kpop recently but I don't think the userbase will be mature enough for it to not resort to dragging :pepe-narrow-eyes: but I still wanna try it... maybe one day :pepe-notes:

  • I don't find plastic surgery as a taboo. If we ignore it, it doesn't stop existing and with the people trying to perfect their looks more and more, it's becoming more and more accesible to everyone.

I don't think it's a terrible thing, but then again, I wish unique and natural features would be normalised and that face types wouldn't become fashion (as in: big lips are in, everyone has to have them, V-jaws are in, etc...).

I don't only mean kpop, but also with western media and with all the social media also the everyday people.

My faves did it, like everyone elses, all the western celebs etc, I see changes even though minimal. It's ok, it's their life, but I would never encourage plastic surgery, because I believe they really didn't need it and don't support the trend of plastic surgery becoming normal to 'perfect your face' for the trend. I also don't condemn it. (unless it's minors or super young people of course, then it's on parents, because kids are still evolving and are just trying to fit in or do what they think is normal)

Ps doesn't change my opinion of someone though.

  • Personally, I don't really care about this subject. The big majority of this industry probably had plastic surgery and it's honestly expected since it's so appearance-centric. And people should come to terms with that. It's unfortunate that even minors resort to PS, but I blame the parents the most in this case.

Also just gonna drop this interesting tidbit i read from that thread.. how people noticed some kpop companies even edited the idols teasers / even old photos so that it would match them when they got a fix up / further surgery pepe-ooh

  • I just don't think it's a big deal. Beauty itself isn't an achievement, someone being naturally beautiful means nothing to me. Actually, if they are naturally beautiful and look down on others for trying to better their appearance then they become pieces of shit to me. So really, the dummi way of thinking about this topic is the following: I dont care if someone gets plastic surgery, as long as it looks good LMAO! If it looks bad, then it looks bad. So really I have the same stance on natural beauty. Being naturally beautiful just means you're beautiful. The end.

    Word :yesr:

  • I personally don't like the discussions because I don't like picking people's appearances apart. I just don't see the value in discussing it outside of the larger implications on body image.

  • Tbh my stance is always changing.

I personally think that plastic surgery is your choice and i dont care if you have it, but i wish that it didnt exist in the capacity that it does because i think it has been reinforcing harmful stereotypes for the future. (Ie: this is the correct nose to have or the superior eye lid)

Like for instance: i stan almost all members that have their natural eyelid because i think its so weird to change the shape of your eyes from what would be natural to you and your ethnicity (i understand that double eyelids and monolids are BOTH naturally occurring in SEA people, but, its still weird to deny your genetics and then like… choose another gene almost. Idk

  • I don't think PS should be normalized because I don't think it should be encouraged, nor do I think it should be looked down upon. But the way people talk about it, it's like a damn game along the lines of "guess who out of these had plastic surgery?" or "guess which body part has had work done?". So I'm wary about people's intentions when discussing the matter. I also see it so often that people come after other people's faves because they questioned the plastic surgery of their own faves.

All in all I think people should stop caring about whether X had Y done because the conversation doesn't achieve anything.

or just have the conversation with people mature enough to not start dragging faves or making it a competition, its possible :wellr: i've seen it 2x

  • I think it's okay if someone has had plastic surgery. It's a personal choice. My issue is more with people pretending that it's all natural. This can create unrealistic expectations for impressionable guys and girls.

  • donkey ear correction is ok I guess

but you can still hide those under hair...

as for other things they are bullshit

the only plastic surgery of face that I can understand is when person has/had cancer, or after big accident, like this one below:

  • i dont think plastic surgery discussions should be allowed because everyone calls themselves open minded but they will point fingers at other idols and never on their own idols. It is used by antis to hate on an idol or groups. Here in this thread only you read somone writes that 4th gen idols are getting more plastic surgery. Just another way to say 4th gen idols are all plastic and 3rd gen idol have less work done. Is it not implying even if its not saying it.

There is some youtuber who used to do plastic surgery analysis of western celebrities and one celebrity called her lying. Even if she got work done she did not want to accept. Is then necessary to talk publicly about what plastic surgery she had. Even if she is denying because of discomfort or whatever reason.

no this is why plastic surgery threads discussions shouldnt be had... i said that based on a pattern which is easily observable but here you took me saying that in the worst possible outcome and called them "plastic" which was never a word i used... especially when its got negative connotations.

    y'all weird

    :pepe-cross:

  • if I see someone in real life who is beautiful I won't go like hold on, let me check their part pictures before to make sure they are natural before I call them beautiful

In the same manner, if an idol looks beautiful to you or to someone, who the fuck care if they did PS.

At this point in time people find them beautiful

People saying x is not natural but my fav is, isn't exactly a flex
