Can the music industry survive without physical album sales?

in order to have better control over environmental waste

no physical album with cds

just music platform streaming and digital album download only.

we getting rid of cds cus that thing is almost as obsolete as vinyl when it comes to actually listening to music.

lets be real it's a collectable plastic disc, that's it.

music awards shows can go count digital album download and streaming numbers to pass out awards at the end of year and we getting rid of physical album award altogether.

this way fans can stop bulk buying physical albums to inflate album sales for awards and achievement purposes only

fans can go inflate them sales digitally instead and create less harm to the environment

we can still have artist photo album sales but that won't count towards music charts and awards but only sales like any other merch you purchase for your artist.

so people buying physical photo album for the pictures and other collectables like photo cards are still able to do that

you can still support your artist financially like that

the physical sales just doesn't reflect on the music chart.

but if download and streaming matters for music show awards, wouldn't fans get on board?

the photo album and collectables will still be available for those fans to purchase

we just want to stop people from purchasing extra physical album for the charts and then throw it away right after.

i feel that if the photo album is not part of the album that counts for charts, it will not sell well

for an artist selling 200k-300k albums, photo albums will sell like 30k-50k almost and I'm not sure how profitable it will be

for artists selling 50k-100k, there will be no profits from photo albums and they probably make minimal profit from collectable/merch

theoretically, it can be done but financially it is going to be a huge blow imo

they're EASILY more popular than CDs. there's a community and vinyl sales have been booming.
