Why SM has wasted so much money in Aespa?

  • Isn't unfair to the other acts who actually got natural growth and interest of the west? RV, EXO and even NCT127 never got the level of promo of Aespa, yet they clearly were in actual demand,

Why SM cares so much about these 4 girlies? could be any of them the daughter of some executive?

  • Now you know you’re lying with that NCT 127 insert. SM snagged several U.S. opps for them despite generating less than half the buzz BP did, let alone BTS.

  • There has never been demand for SM groups in the US. He figured he could use the void left by BP and to a lesser extent BTS and fill it up with his own version of girl crush gg. This is just SM going all in on his version of BP.

I know kpop fans want to believe there is demand, and their girls are getting invited, but this is simply SM paying for their "relevance".

  • So we're pretending that Red Velvet haven't been underperforming since Queendom? They just sold 500k albums after 8 years. aespa money is aespa money in fact sponsors for the upcoming SMTOWN concert are CFs aespa bagged, Kb Bank and Mediheal also are we pretending Next Level is not a hit song and Savage sold 600k? Girls has 1mil plus preorders and you idiots still question if they're successful.

  • Deserved aespa right now is kinda carrying that damn company with sales , chart, major cfs , and relevance.

RV sold 650k, and sales don't even matter anymore with the huge growth that has happened, you can see nugu acts like nct selling at the level of 2018 BTS yet still not comparable to their other 2018 metrics, same with ggs, 3rd gen ggs never had great sales but their other metrics was always better, unlike the majority of 4th gen ggs with huge sales and bad other metrics

  • A company investing good money and effort in their newest gg. What a horrible prospect!

  • Times were different. Marketing stratergies were different. MY's can also raise the issue that when their seniors debuted those groups had frequent comebacks and content throughout the year, while they have bare minimum.

    Of course. They copying BP.

  • OP kinda gives off k-netizen vibes lmao

  • They want to buy their way through so aespa can reach bp or even bts' level in the west. Highly doubt that's gonna happen though since they had more organic success and ability to go viral which aespa clearly lacks, they are basically korean industry plants.

  • Actually, NCT 127 had many of the same opportunities: that’s how they learned what was effective for exposure and used on aespa.

They were on American morning shows like Today and GMA, on late night shows like Jimmy Kimmel and James Corden, on the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade, a Mickey Mouse 90th anniversary special, part of Apple’s Up Next program which gave them a rooftop concert Apple put out and an appearance at the AMAs.

That’s in addition to all the local tv news outlets, esp in the big cities, radio shows, concert events like Jingle Ball and stuff like Access Hollywood. All of that exposure vaulted them in the BB charts in the first place, then moved them from 86 to 11 in sales. Hell, they even did Spanish language TV. (They were also doing a tour for part of this with many sold out stops.)

They may not have had Coachella or some showcase nights, but they had quite substantial promotion. They also have three fluent English speakers, which makes it easier to book on shows, since they can give an interview entirely in English, interact with the hosts and participate in the segments. You see this with all Kpop groups promoting in the US, hosts will generally talk to the English speakers first and most often.

EXO and RV didn’t have this level of promo, it’s true.

I get that people are obsessed with charts but NCT (including all its sub- units) is hard carrying that company rn with aespa adding additional $$. All the financial reports reference the album sales and tours of NCT driving the record profits although they also reference aespa as another part of their future growth with strength in good sales and more importantly for financial analysts thinking about long term growth, current trends like the metaverse.
