It’s only good at debut. And even after that it only works if you won’t release another track ever again so that your worth still holds. But this already goes against your scenario you provided where they have to keep on releasing music after their first hit.
Most of the artists I've liked have improved with songs after debut, but none of them have really been trash I guess so Idk 
Tbh, I think there are more cons with soty debut, because you'll always be expected to top that and when you don't you'll lose popularity. Whereas a trash debut can be bad if you're from a nugu company but they always have a chance to improve and gain more attention with great comebacks. So yeah trash debut anyday
