because one the first 3rd gen groups were red velvet and mamamoo who debuted in 2014. But calling a gg that debuted in 2018 is just odd. at least for boygroups 3rd gen started in 2012 and 2018 is 6 years later and even that is short. People make less of a problem out of izone debuting in 2018 and being called 4th gen cause most of the members have debuted again and are now 4th gen idols I guess.

Generations are usually based on big company groups' debuts and Stray Kids is from JYPE, and the only notable bg that debuted before them and is also considered 4th gen is The Boyz. Both Ateez and Iz*One debuted after them. Plus Iz*One was a produce group.
Also, the current top 4th gen bg's debuts are better distributed. The current top three are 2018, 2019, and 2020 debuts, respectively. And the next three most successful bgs are 2020, 2018, and late 2017 debuts. But (G)I-dle's achievements are always compared to Aespa, a late 2020 debut, and IVE, a late 2021 debut. Itzy haven't had a domestic hit in a while, that's the problem; if they did, people could compare them to IVE, Aespa, and Idle, and the continuity wouldn't feel broken.
But the simplest answer is that people love trying to deny a group belongs to a generation when their achievements are competing with their faves' achievements

People also care a lot about skz being a 4th gen group or not lol
and it's always the other 4th gen bg stans
the entire industry considers them 4th gen but sure a pressed kpop stan that wants skz's achievements for their faves will change that -
-
not really? I've always seen them being compared to 4th gen ggs.
-
have been a kpop fan since 2016, never seen idle being compared to 3rd gen groups, everytime i seen them being compared to other 4th gen groups
-
-
this basically in the year itzy debuted was the start of 4th gen more or less

Generations aren't 100% ironclad agreed upon.
Also, they aren't the same for boy groups and girl groups.
Apparently, boy groups counting from 2012 (like EXO) are considered 3rd gen - but not girl groups - while for girl groups it's 2014 that's considered the starting year for 3rd gen girl groups.
While for 4th gen, most people see 2018 for both girl groups and boy groups as the starting year.

All are late 3rd gen groups.

none of them are 4th generation but for girl groups is more obvious G idle isn't since a lot of younger GG's are debuting and G idle seems like 3.5 even groups like Itzy is barely considered 4th even though itzy and txt marked the start of 4th generation. Now, fans want to include groups that debuted in 2017 as 4th generation lol

You're contradicting what Korean media has said. They include those groups in the 4th gen. I don't know how you refute that when it's been said by authorities on K-Pop.

Ideally, 2019 would be the start of 4th gen because of Itzy and TXT's debut, two followup groups to third gen leaders Twice and BTS.
But in reality, it's just weird to put 2018 groups like Gidle and Izone in amongst third generation veterans Red Velvet, Mamamoo, Gfriend, Twice and BP. Do we really wanna put 14 year old Wonyoung and 15 year old Yujin in the same generation as 31 year old Irene??? Same with putting 2018 boy groups like Stray Kids in the same generation as literal grown ass 30 year olds in Got 7.
2018 is the start of 4th generation.

2018 is the start of 4th generation.
in that case 2 members of G idle are 25 isn't it weird them to put them next to a 15 year old? keep mind that most 4th girl generation girl groups are in their early 20's or teenagers.
2014 was the start of 3rd generation girl groups with red velvet, mamamoo then Gfirend and twice debuted in 2015 and blackpink in 2016.
