Consider you're getting support for food and transportation expenses. Is 20,000KRW enough for you for a week?

My mom told me to spend 20,000KRW thoughtfully which means I only got to spend 3,000KRW (2.36USD) each day. But even that equals 21,000KRW for a week, which means that I have to spend less than 3,000KRW every day.

No matter how poor we are, don't you think this just doesn't make sense?

My mom doesn't understand me and I'm already at loss for words

She told me to not play around and just study...

    -Go find a part-time

-My allowance money was 30,000KRW (23.65USD) every week back then in 2015 when I was a 7th grader, though...

-It's impossible. You should go find a part-time. That's the least you can do as an adult.

-Impossible. I spend at least 3,500KRW (2.76USD) every day for coffee...

-Oh Gosh, it's such a relief that I don't come from a family like that

-I spend 20,000KRW every day, though...

-No, you can't live like that. Are you not going to socialize?

-I think it's possible, just not every week...

-If the only thing you do is stay still and breathe, it's possible.

-You can't live a week with just 20,000KRW. Maybe she's telling you to go find a part-time?

    -I don't think I can

-If you can't provide for your kid, why bother giving birth to them in the first place?

  • My biggest expense when i had offline classes was for food and transportation. If the parents already provide transportation and food cost outside of that 20k, i feel like it's super possible? You can use that money for printing papers and ocassionally use it for entertainment purposes like once in a week. But it also depend on personality and habit. I rarely go out so that amount is enough for me, but i also know people who became stressed when they can't hang out often.

  • I mean if ur parents have provided you until 18 and still provides you in college then complaining for them giving less money is bit much, if need extra money can do part time job. I was lucky to get scholarship and it came with stipend so I didn't have to do part time job. I have only done few part time jobs for self development.

  • With food and transportation covered what else do they need to buy? They better be glad they got anything at all.

From my understanding Korean College students go out to eat, party and drink alot

I can't imagine the shame to ask my parents money for clubbing or drinking out with friends

  • i was thinking that OP is a middle/high school kid... omg a college student who cries bcs mommy doesn't give enough money...

i saw that many college students in sk usually work part time at cafes or convenience stores since they are allowed to have a flexible schedule. Or some work as english or math tutors or during weekends at restaurants, so there are some opportunities to gain some pocket money.

Yes, 20k won is not enough to go and drink/eat with your friends, but be grateful that you even receive those lmao, if you want to flex go and flex with your own money

  • Get a job. When I went to university, my family was going through really hard times financially.

My mom most of the time couldn't even give me that much. I had to work. I got a simple workstudy job, and since I didn't have a car or go out partying that much, that money was more than enough. I even saved enough money to help my mom sometimes.

I also lacked the money in college that my parents gave me. I always wanted to hang out with friends and have a delicious meal. I also often found where you can compare and contrast essays, I used helpful resources for this. This also cost money. The most correct option is to go to work, not only for the money but also for the experience.

I agree, we should be grateful for what we already have.

  • There was a time when i lived on 5 bucks a month living on a farm in wisconsin while working part time. But at the same time, I needed to study and write a residency statement Since I wanted to become a lawyer. Work on the farm paid off. My salary was raised from 5 bucks to 12. And I was able to study at two universities at the same time
