I keep seeing these bot allegations but what exactly was their basis for branding these accounts as bots? was it just new accounts that they assumed to be bots because they had a pro-MHJ stance? if it was just new accounts then I'm not sure why they were overly suspicious when it's normal to have an influx of new accounts whenever these large scandals happen as it's usually people trying to find a place to have a discussion.

I mean, we've already seen this forum have a lot of new users or even previously inactive users rejoin because of the scandal so i don't think immediately claiming these people are bots is fair especially if it's because their opinions don't align with the dominating opinion in these subreddits.

It was a pattern of accounts that had been inactive for years usually, or sometimes zero karma new accounts, and had never before been active on any kpop subs, that emerged claiming to be korean and sharing the korean perspective. They usually included certain key phrases that were the same or similar across the posts/users which made people suspicious. And the comments would often be deleted (not by mods in the beginning) within 12 hours. And there was constantly new accounts exhibiting this behaviour, not consistent support from the same accounts (beyond a couple of days).

It was pretty typical reddit bot behaviour so it was easy to spot (this behaviour regularly happens in news subs so if you're active in those then you'll recognize it). There were users that everyone agreed were legit and not bots in support of MHJ in the megathreads btw, because they weren't behaving with the typical bot pattern. Some of them are still active in the thread in fact.

I know, i'm a newjeans fan (they were my second most played artist last year) :'>

It's more so why would she wear something that imitates what Minji's character has worn to the T before if not to further insert herself? It just seems so uneccessary. MHJ always wears those types of clothes, but she could've chosen some other shirt and hat. I don't think it's a coincidence that everything matched. Fine if it was only the shirt, but the hat too? Smh.

It's not that serious but i think it paints MHJ in a bad light for her to dress exactly like one of the characters have done, it comes across as self important and careless towards the girls.

But to be clear, this is not that big of a deal (although me writing an essay makes it seem like i care more than i do lol), i just think it's in bad taste and further adds credence to MHJ's inflated sense of self.

This might be silly, but MHJ seems like such a fucking narcissist my god. Why would she insert herself like that? Now people will only think of MHJ when they see Minji's character

Oh i don't doubt that the university is affiliated with dahn world, that much is pretty clear, i'm just posting relevant articles! To me that does not mean that BTS or even HYBE are affiliated though, that's another question

Global cyber university gave a statement. Using deepL translator (bolded by me, seems to be the gist of their statment):

"Global Cyber University (President Gong Byung-young) has announced that it will take strong legal action against malicious slander against the university that is spreading indiscriminately.

Recently, posts have been spreading online, including on social media and YouTube, claiming that the university is affiliated with a religiously-colored meditation group and that BTS, who graduated from the university, was admitted to the university because of its ties to the group.

Global Cyber University is a four-year distance learning university under the Higher Education Act that was officially established by the Ministry of Education in 2010 and graduates receive a regular bachelor's degree. The university is legally and administratively separated from religious facilities or organizations and does not operate religious facilities or classes on campus.

Nevertheless, some malicious social media users have been spreading untrue rumors, such as "Global Cyber University is a religious university with a connection to the entity," and "it offers classes for religious activities," causing confusion.

The university also refuted the claim that six BTS members graduated from the university, saying, "They all enrolled in the university before their official debut as BTS or before they became famous."

Global Cyber University opened the first and only broadcasting and entertainment department at a distance university in 2011, the year after its opening, to continue the development of the Korean Wave, and in March 2013, before BTS debuted, Sugar was the first to enroll.

With the cyber university's characteristics of being able to study while being active without the constraints of time and space, and its practical curriculum, RM and J-Hope in 2014, V and Jimin in 2015, and Jungkook in 2017 were all enrolled by their own choice after being recommended by Suga. As a result of these advantages, Global Cyber University's Department of Broadcasting and Entertainment is home to the largest number of K-pop artists in Korea, as well as actors, dancers, comedians, magicians, and other pop culture stars.

BTS auditioned for Big Hit Enter in 2010, debuted in 2013, and enrolled in GAKU either before or right after their debut, so it's hard to associate them with a specific organization.

In addition, Ilji Art Hall, the venue of BTS's debut, is a Hallyu concert hall famous for showcasing countless K-pop artists and presenting movies and dramas such as Parasite, so linking their debut to a specific organization is also a malicious claim.

"Our school is an explicitly Ministry of Education-accredited four-year comprehensive school with administrative and legal independence and autonomy. "We are a four-year, Ministry of Education-accredited university with clear administrative and legal independence and autonomy," the statement continued, "and many of our students are working professionals, and the same is true for our celebrity students, who are enrolled on their own volition and are committed to their studies and careers.

"We are currently gathering evidence to take strong legal action against those who are spreading the defamatory videos and malicious posts," he said. "We warn that we will not sit idly by and will take strong legal action against anyone who tries to defame the university, its students and alumni with misinformation that undermines the hard work and honor of the university staff who have been dedicated to the education and welfare of students for the past 14 years.""

Just saw some tweet saying SM + other company workers anonymously saying it's nightmare working with mhj. Hybe mediaplay at it?

I don't know how many people followed the garam situation when it happened. Hybe messed it up from the very beginning. Their publicity strategies r just awful.

It's posts on BLIND (basically the korean glassdoor except you have to verify your workplace with email on BLIND) from 2022, 2023 and present time that are airing out how much of a pain she is to work with. The posts themselves on BLIND are very unlikely to be mediaplay since there's posts talking about MHJ being a bad boss from several years ago, but of course articles being published about the BLIND posts might be mediaplay. Although personally i don't really classify it as such bc anyone can go to BLIND at any time and read ADOR reviews

"Donga Ilbo reports that in Mar 2023, Hybe entered into a shareholder agreement with MHJ to transfer a 20% stake to her. She reduced her stake to 18% and distributed 2% to employees of the company. At that time, there was a good working relationship as Chairman Bang lent Min Heejin the money (to buy the shares). In December 2023, a conflict arose when MHJ demanded a revision of the shareholder agreement, increasing the valuation from 13x the value of Ador to 30x the value of Ador (for all 18% of her shares).

The revised valuation would increase the value of her shares from 100B to 270B. MHJ also requested a revision to the clause that required Hybe's consent to sell the remaining 4.5% of the 18% of her shares, saying that in conjunction with the non compete, this was a slave contract, Hybe agreed that the 4.5% would be treated as a put option (basically mandating that Hybe would buy back all 18% at an agreed valuation) but rejected the demands for a higher valuation. The two parties could not come to an agreement."

She's gone and lost her mind, 30x the value? That's an unreasonable demand, and an over valuation, no wonder HYBE rejected it. Newjeans haven't even toured yet for gods sake, they don't even have a full album out. They've done nothing to prove their longevity that would warrant that kind of money yet. I bet she will use or was planning to use the rejection of this 30x the value proposal as another "proof" of mistreatment.

And this shows that BSH and MHJ's relationship must've still been good in march of 2023 since he personally lent her a large sum of money, and that it's very likely true that the relationship soured in december 2023 because of the renegotiation of her contract. BSH is a fool and i hope this teaches him a lesson in trust.

Asking for 270 billion won and yet she keeps claiming it's not about the money smh, yeah right.

    ???

Can these people read? They changed it FROM misunderstaning into judgement/concluded (i've seen both translations), so they're just reaffirming and taking a more resolute stance, not weakening it.

As far as i understand it's also a naver article that's been edited, not a statement from HYBE so it could've been done with the author or editor's discretion if they thought they expressed themselves wrongly and wanted to revise

    that's my point

I'm from Poland and we have something called Noc Świętojańska, basically a Midsummer Night

earlier it was like 2-3 days but nowadays it's more just setting for one day, basically celebrating the 'shortest night in year', it's like part of Slavic culture, in the past people would burn fire, dance, and drink, and celebrate together

nowadays some clubs use it to attract people to come to event and dance :twerkingpepe:

We also celebrate midsummer! It's separate from walpurgis and happens in june though v-v Midsummer is the biggest holiday here in sweden, on par with christmas (or bigger even for some) and people get absolutely smashed without fail every year + it's the holiday where we infamously dance around an (erect lol) flower pole and sing songs. It's kind of weird typing it out but it's such a nice holiday tbh and i love the aspect of welcoming the light and summer

I've already seen people trying connect GFriend to this saying that they ended promotions with Walpurgis Night

like really some people should do reading online and learn a bit about history

I believe you can't really pick some 8th century shit up which was normal back then and say that nowadays this is cultist xD

Do people not celebrate walpurgis outside of northern europe??

It's a holiday where i live so people get a day off work and we celebrate by lightening a really huge fire lol. But then again i guess we're all witches up here :pepeflushed:

Walpurgis getting pulled into the cult stuff came off as so weird to me bc of this, it's such a normal holiday here and no one associates it with the occult

First of all, a non-compete clause is completely normal in contracts so that in itself isn't strange. But moving on

The reason HYBE's and MHJ's relationship deteriorated since december is due to the renegotiation surrounding those 4.5% shares breaking down. In december 2023 HYBE offered to renegotiate that part of the contract since she was dissatisfied with it, but they couldn't agree on the terms because she wanted a much higher compensation that HYBE weren't willing to agree on (which is funny, it's not about money for her, huh?). If she had agreed to the terms or at least continued to negotiate instead of making HYBE suspect breach of trust, this wouldn't be an issue and she would be free to sell all her 18% (with time).

TMIkpop did a good summary of the situation here, i'll copy paste it:

"I guess I'm doing more updates about the Hybe v MHJ issue. I'm paraphrasing these two articles so it's easier to understand. According to the IB and music industry on 26 Apr, the conflict between MHJ and HYBE began in Dec 2023. CEO MHJ was unhappy with the shareholder agreement she had signed in Mar of 2023 regarding the terms of how she could dispose of her shares. In Mar 2023, MHJ was sold 18% of HYBE at a low rate (previously it was disclosed that it was 1.1B and the reason for the low number was because at the end of 2022 ADOR had a net loss. In 2023, ADOR had a significant profit).

Starting in Nov of this year, 13.5% of MHJ's shares can be sold back to Hybe via a put option (requiring HYBE to buy back at a certain price estimated to be around 100B). The remaining 4.5% cannot be sold without Hybe's consent. MHJ raised objections to the restrictions on that 4.5% back in Dec. HYBE said that they could modify it, suggesting a put option for the 4.5% with different timing meaning she could sell it back to Hybe without consent but at a different later time.

They suggested that a later date might even be advantageous because the market price of ADOR could rise in the future. MHJ refused this offer wanting to lock in a market price for the put option and she said to use a multiple of other labels as her label had a better operating margin than the others (operating margin is the profit after the costs are offset by the revenue. if the costs are higher than revenue, it's a net loss. if the revenue is higher than the costs, its a operating profit. She was saying she runs ADOR more efficiently). At this point MHJ obtained legal counsel and the two sides continued to negotiate through their legal representatives. However, the report earlier this year that MHJ was meeting with outside investors became a catalyst for the 22 Apr audit.

Per legal experts, HYBE can use the call option to buy back the shares at a lower price than market value if they can prove that MHJ breached her contract due to the circumstances that led to the original low price at which she obtained them. MHJ's side said on the 26 that this is an unreasonable provision (at the press conference she said that this was a slave contract designed to keep her at HYBE forever). There is also a non compete clause in her contract which says she cannot do business during her term as the CEO or during the period of holding shares. It can be interpreted that if Hybe refused to allow MHJ to sell the 4.5% shares, they could prevent her from "doing business" or working in the entertainment industry.

It was this provision the two parties were negotiating up to the audit of 22 Apr. Hybe said that the reason that they couldn't come to an agreement was because the two couldn't agree to the amount of compensation for the 4.5%. Chosun adds that Hybe offered 13x the average operating profit over two years while MHJ wanted 20x for the 4.5%."
