The biggest hit songs of the year belong to 4th gen girl groups. Stop deluding yourself.
They haven't held the crown for almost 3 years now.
NewJeans eclipsed them in Korea in their debut era, and they've since taken every meaningful record from BP in record time.
This year, not in the past, they're going to break BP's streak of being the most streamed girl group on Spotify

what do you mean every meaningful record? bp still hold most of their records last i checked. most attended girl group tour, highest grossing girl group tour, most sold album, most streamed song on spotify, most streamed album, most total spotify streams, obvioulsy all the youtube ones, highest charting on h100, etc.
so what if nj gets most streamed girl group on spotify this year. bp hasnt released anything in ages and its still close. this isnt exactly a record its just one specific year.
in the recent gallup poll asking koreans who the biggest girl group of the century is bp tied 1st place with snsd. newjeans had far less votes. newjeans are doing well but obviously theyre not at bp level yet even in the eyes of koreans.

a few legendary artists can stand the test of time (like bp and the other ones you mentioned in the OP) but thats not typical, most artists just fall off even if the label keeps trying (mamamoo, rv, twice). i think its especially like that in kpop where it appeals a lot to younger people and its a lot more superficial than the west.

Super Shy debuted at #66 and peaked at #48 on the Billboard Hot 100, spending 8 weeks on the chart, the second most weeks on the chart after only Cupid.
Magnetic debuted at #91 and spent 1 week on the chart.
Super Shy is also easily the most critically acclaimed girl group song in K-Pop history
ILLIT will never reach NewJeans' level. At best, their peak is becoming the Kobe Bryant to New Jeans' Michael Jordan. That's their absolute maximum potential.
its also an objective fact that magnetic reached the 100M, 200M and 300M milestones on spotify faster than super shy did. also peaked higher and stayed in the top 10 of apple music global longer than super shy.
magnetic was released at the time that beyonce and future/metrobooming had their entire albums in the hot 100. it definitely couldve charted higher and longer than it did during a less competitive time.
don't know for sure which song was bigger but the difference isnt as big as you tried to make it seem.

it's weird they put her in because didn't she not even do well in the voting? It's not like she was the people's pick.
she did pretty good in the votings. she was consistently around 6th place in korean and global votes throughout the show. she ranked 4th in the final week of online voting (50% korean, 50% global). she ranked 7th in the very final voting tally but that one gave a lot of weight to live audience votes. wonhee went from 9th to 1st place with the live votings added. kinda weird how much they made the live audience votes count towards the final total but doesnt really matter, i think they had most of the lineup planned from the start.

Yunah fits in fine as long as the styling isn't super juvenile. She looks great in a more elegant style like here. Even if she's not a lot of people's favourite she's not useless at all. She's one of the more stable vocalists, her tone adds a nice dynamic to the songs, she's demonstrated good leadership skills during RUNext, she's actually entertaining and good at variety. Most of the other members are kinda quiet and introverted, it would be boring without her.
Yunah is great. Just stick to the history lessons
