moomoo card: revoked
davids heart: broken
-
I did forget about that.
Regardless, this is at least data, so you met the call. Filtering through the data and extracting the details required to make valid inferences about said data is another story.
How do I use this quantitative analysis to make a qualitative argument is the difficult part.
What is the scale we balance each idol's achievements on?
I doubt anyone is willing to go that hard, but I wish someone out there was.
With results like this you don't need any deep scientific analysis. The one time in the past five years that Karina had more searches than Jennie was when that dating news broke and it was very brief and Jennie had way bigger peaks and she consistently has about double her searches. Your thread simply asked who's more popular between the two and I think this answers that. Comparing who has the more meaningful achievements is a different topic.
-
That's often what happens with dating news. Look at the 5 year comparison and look at the spike Jennie got in may 2023. That was just her at met gala I think.

Let it go.
"only for 3 weeks"
They competed against Mamamoo head to head and lost.
Their song had better longevity ultimately, but the group with more hype and popularity was confirmed the night both songs dropped.
It doesn't matter what you say to me. My stance and the facts won't change.
whatever i don't care if you change your stance. its a bit amusing to me. the way you bring it up every chance you get like its their biggest achievement. "believe and listen" mamamoo's biggest achievement is doing slightly better digitally than rookie bp for a brief 3 weeks and then getting destroyed in the long run
-
BLACKPINK couldn't even beat Mamamoo head to head in 2017, and both Twice and Red Velvet had stronger 2017s than even Mamamoo.
If you're not sold, that's because you never intended to buy and not because I didn't make a compelling case to do so.
This isn't even my opinion. It's quite literally factually untrue.
only twice appeared higher than aiiyl on the 2017 yearly digital chart for girl groups. YIA was wayyyyy lower. YIA only charted above AIIYL on melon and only for 3 weeks. AIIYL went on to be the way bigger song in korea. aiiyl also had super impressive global numbers and it was just bp at 10 months old. if it was a battle its not what can be considered a win for mamamoo
korean digitals were mamamoos only real strength. thats why they were seen as way below twice and bp after 2018 when bp released an album and started touring. even if mamamoo released a hit song they were just not on the same league

Did people like you become K-Pop fans before 2020?
I'm asking this seriously.
Because I constantly see third gen babies (I don't believe any of you were around for the start of the third gen) acting like the stars of the second gen were only known in Korea, like their first generation predecessors, as if the second generation literally isn't accredited with leading the Hallyu Wave.
Contrary to what you may try to argue here, SOME OF US WERE FANS BEFORE THIRD GENERATION.
I didn't live in Korea. I was a casual fan at best back then. I knew of SNSD.
Stop acting like they were just some local act.
I'm aware they had a decent following outside Korea but it was not comparable with peak BP. They would've been doing big stadium tours if they were.
-
Nobody ever said that, so why is it a talking point?
I swear, you Blinks do the most hyperbolic strawmanning to justify your indignant rage when someone questions any aspect of BP's career or popularity, and it's debatable whether or not I even did that.
I never once said they're not popular in Korea or that Koreans don't consider them a legendary group.
I just find it... curious that, for whatever reason you want to attribute it to, they've never had a year end top song on MelOn like all the other top girl groups, and their cupboard of daesangs is rather barren considering their status
In my own warped way, I'm actually acknowledging their popularity by pointing out the cognitive dissonance caused by these odd gaps in their resume.
I'm not saying there are people saying they're not popular in Korea. But there are many Ifans who have said that they can't be considered the biggest Korean girl group of all time because they have no daesang (a Korean specific award) meanwhile the Koreans themselves often do consider them to be the biggest of all time. Not just based on this Gallup polls but I've seen a lot of discussions like this.
I wasn't even saying that you were trying to say that but it is related to the thread topic. Despite BP not having some of these Korean accolades that you mentioned in the OP many actual Koreans do consider them to be the biggest of all time along with SNSD.
-
Don't feign indifference or apathy so hard; it only draws more attention to how much you actually do care.
You think I don't know how you Blinks move after all these years? It burns you with a salty fury that BP don't have that record.
I can just look at the replies to any chart account that tweets about it to confirm that fact.
Korea would choose SNSD over BP no questions asked.
BP has big numbers. SNSD was far more iconic, considered a National Treasure comparable to kimchi.
Using Korea as the delineating factor is an interesting choice.
thats not my thoughts on what determines who is bigger overall, its my response to people who think bp isnt so highly regarded in korea because they dont have some particular korean accolades. actual koreans don't care that much otherwise twice wouldve ranked much higher
-
And clearly many of you care, or this topic would have flopped.
Obviously you're all actually very concerned about the poor optics this could cause for their legacies, or you would be completely unbothered by this thread instead of clearly being pressed and triggered by a simple observation
And they did not rank #1 beside SNSD on the Gallup Survey. They ranked behind them.
It's funny how you all devote so much of your energy to trivializing Korea and the importance of being popular there, until conversations like these happen.
I made a thread about BP, not SNSD.
they tied for #1. very unbothered by your thread. its just something amusing i've noticed before and your thread reminded me of it.
bp anti: they can't be the kpop queens. no daesang!!!
actual koreans: yeah bp the best
-
the more popular group has more total fans and listeners
korean population is tiny compared to the entire rest of the world
kpop had massive growth globally during blackpinks era
you can argue that the comparison isnt fair and yeah maybe it isn't, but the answer is just blackpink

you create content for them in the form of raunchy fanfics
-
Literally what does LSF or PN have anything to do with anything we've been discussing?
i was just reading the thread and i saw your post. you said "name a single girl group that could pull that off" and i responded with a song i felt did super well despite not having what i would call promo. but its not that serious
but whatever i don't really care why do you have to be so hostile all the time geez

Perfect night didn’t achieve a PAK. It didn’t even achieve a RAK
either way it was one of the strongest songs last year on the charts
-
What? Perfect Night was one of the most promoted songs of the year.
It was literally in Overwatch as part of a LSF/OW collaboration.
You couldn't do anything in the game without hearing the song

that mamamoo song probably had a little less promo but it also only very briefly charted well back when the charts were much kinder to new releases. safe to say perfect night finishing the year with one of the highest digital points for all songs is more impressive.
