was literally thinking super shy mv was an inferior imitation of attention lol. I just watched super shy again to refresh my memory and jeez there were so many shots of random people idc about lol and many scenes zoomed out far too wide they didn’t actually show anything interesting. also it doesn’t help that super shy’s choreo is a lot more fast paced with never ending flailing limbs movements lol it just looks super messy when the camera panned out to show a crowd with no distinctive feature, compared to attention whose choreo is more laid back and fluid, and the pauses between moves allow the zoom out shots to work (we can actually see the girls and the choreo) and room to breathe.
Tbf i think the bright harsh lighting flare of the mv and the outfits of the girls for super shy also made them blend in a little too well and hard to distinguish, while the colour palette for attention, especially in those shots of them dancing on a lush open green field, is more cool and pleasant to look at. Once again, attention reigned superior in everything lol from the song to mv direction even to the fashion 🥲

Maybe unpopularity opinion?, but I don’t like the camerawork/editing in super shy’s mv. It picks the wrong locations to give full zoom out shots to, picks the wrong moments to give zoom in shots to, picks the wrong transitions between scenes and picks the wrong cuts to compile for the final product. Also all the abrupt jump cuts don’t do anything to highlight either the girls or the dance (i think danielle’s face is the only one I remember from the mv, and I don’t even know what the main hook of the choreo was supposed to be lol), and turn the cool dance formations with the background dancers into a jumbled mess with seemingly not much purpose or direction to them lol. Might as well have only employed a flash mob standing randomly all over the place if they were not going to utilise their positioning and formation for the mv.
Which is why this dance practice is so much more satisfying to watch. You actually get to see what moves they make and how they fit the music. the mv was a waste of lisbon tbh urgh i feel the direction should’ve been sth a lot different

Lol i know you said that, but it still doesn’t take away from the fact you compiled first 24h uls of all big gg releases from this year to ask your question, alluding to a very obvious answer judging from the observed trend, whilst glossing over a very crucial difference in their circumstances in a throwaway “compliment” to nj, if it can even be called that lol. But anyway idrc about all this and how you feel about nj, i was just answering that user’s puzzle over nj’s first 24h uls number. Obviously they couldn’t grasp the reason from your op’s wording lol so you can “compliment” nj all you want, the transparency and clarity of your op remain the same

Before yesterday I absolutely would've said yes but the first 24h ULs seem kinda low to me for a Newjeans release? This completely threw me off ngl
the low first 24h uls is bc super shy was released on friday at noon instead of on monday in the evening like all the other songs mentioned in the op. Op purposefully ignored this fact for his “comparison” lol

RV’s entire disco and esp their b sides has always been r&b. It’s basically just the signature SM sound. Just because RV don’t release b side MV’s doesn’t mean “they aren’t committed to R&B”

even if you cram your albums with r&b tracks, if 90% of the tracks you promote is non-r&b, that’s not called being committed. In fact rv’s whole marketing shtick is flip-flopping between sounds/images for their tts or as rv stans like to call it: diverse and multi-faceted and non-one dimensional. You can’t both brag about not being a one trick pony AND being committed to a certain sound for your entire career. That’s a paradox lolAlso it’s a stretch to claim rv’s entire discography is r&b lol their proportion of r&b tracks is definitely higher than the average kpop group, but their discography is definitely much more diverse than that 😭

seriously i love that nj is adamant on consistently bringing r&b to kpop and making it their signature sound. rv had their flashes of r&b brilliance but sadly they never committed to it.
either way ik that bphouse would burst a vein in his nursing home over nj bringing r&b back and i’m all for that

Btw there are so many easter eggs in that mv it’s insane. Love the little humurous bit of the girls energetically ready to go on action but all bumping and squishing on the glass while on the way out and haerin had to use her super strength to smash the window lol. Also hyein got the short end of the stick bc at the beginning she only asked for the power to fly for her character but any ppg can fly by default anyway so everyone else got cool powers on top of flying while poor hyein only got to fly and nothing else 😭
