Her concert is the culmination of her efforts to undermine kpop. I wrote this piece yesterday so I will wait till tomorrow to discuss the significance of the concert's events, virtually all of them negative as usual.

Well I hope to follow your 'negative' writing about IU for a long time to come 😆

Cho Young Pil sent her a bouquet with his wishes, that also I take as a omen, that she will follow him in having a long career, with immense success.

By K-pop standards 14 years with 12 years of superstardom is itself far longer than most.

But she might be the Kpop icon to compete with the likes of CYP.

The Golden Hour - Behind the scenes Day 2,

I thought will not surprise me, after all it is Day 2.

But it was very well done. Poignant.

She sure got a fantastic team, editing and all, that they are master jewelers, and she the great jewel.

    Very nicely done.

I don't celebrate any personal days, for reasons I prefer not to disclose in a public forum like this.

What happened on 11/10/2012 did have a big impact on my posting history since if Lee Jieun had faded away I would have faded away from KPop forums long ago .

Given that KPop could have advanced significantly more than what it actually ended up, and given Lee Jieun had played a very significant role on stopping its success, I have to say that although my struggle would probably end futile, I can say that there was at least one person who did tell the world about the enormous damages she caused to the advancement of KPop to the rest of the world.

If IU retarded Kpop from its full potential success, then you can claim that you retarded the retardation by IU.

That is like claiming "installed brakes on a flying pig"

Pls don't drag Eunhyuk into this. He loves being in Super Junior and loves performing. He said this was the hardest thing that ever happened to him and because of the immense hate he got from this, he, for the first time in his life, thought about ending his career. Luckily he got over this.

It is speculation and the immense hate is typical net-lynch mob mentality - whatever be the truth of it, such hate is undeserved.

But fine and good that he got over it.

poor eunhyuk gained nothing from that

Hmmm... that depends on 'gain' - but let's leave personal stuff apart.

SuJu was already on downhill by 2012, and he was not the most popular member of SuJu either. So apart from fans going crazy for some time (Which anyway happens every few months over something or other), it did not have any longstanding impact on him.

I subscribe to the theory that it was a planned stunt.

    For IU,

In an TV show just a week or so before, the Senior Singer was talking about watching porn and relationships etc., (the show also had Ga In and Suzy)

She had been repeatedly talked about her dislike of being cast into the pure, innocent younger sister image.

With the photo upload, she perfectly destroyed that image and then her creative control on her career grew by bounds and leaps. She took a massive risk, but it paid off.

    For Eunhyuk,

Maybe he wanted some controversy to boost his flagging career, and took the same risk. But that did not happen for him. So no gain, but no particular loss either.

Of course segments of ELFs believe that he was innocent and the slyfox outfoxed him. But I doubt that, because IU remains on good terms with other SuJu members, like Heechul and has a generally a good reputation.

So either it was truly an accident or it was a calculated move, which worked for IU very well, but meh for Eunhyuk.

    Happy anniversary WhyKnock

This is the anniversary of the day when Whyknock an ELF who loved anchovy, was angered into becoming an orc. Or maybe an orc into a Elf, it is all a matter of perspective.

But anyway more than birthdays, relationship milestones, professional milestones - this is the anniversary which has had the most impact on Whyknock's life.

And I personally think is a major reason for IU never falling from her immense superstardom.

Every time a new group debuts with great fanfare or achieves international fame, YK hopes for the demise of IU's career, but probably because of that IU achieves even more fame.

    From Bigbang to Enhyphen

    From SNSD to IVE

All have come, many have gone - but Whyknock has little satisfaction in this cause, few crumbs here and there - Laboum?

To paraphrase Spock - "Hate Long and Despair", for another 1343 years of Senior Singer ruling the charts.

I disagree, if they are transparent on quantifiable data, there is no need for the award. The results will be obvious and always the 4-5 top acts.

Hence hard data should be only one aspect of it - either like now or as eligibility.

Judges vote should remain unpredictable human element. And they should judge after attenders performing.

Anyway.. until I run my own awards :)

But I think awards intentionally obfuscate to have the noise marketing.

You can keep crying - but it is not just the T-Reg, the monsters of longevity in K-charts are lead by

Spring Day - Rock Ballad, EDEM - ballad and TTN.

Hyorin can punch all she wants, her victory will be as irrelevant as Laboum's.

HMH is the reverse run wonder, which got ignored because of Rollin's underdog story, compared to T-Reg's supremacy, But if purely looking at the "reverse run" stats, it would be HMH.

Yes, she has favoured Itzy more than any group from 3.5-4th gen. I wonder why?

MMA, they might obligate her to attend, but she got nothing going this year - though even Pieces is causing some competition.

Ive is the biggest musical act in Korea right now. No one can come close to their combination of consistency, longevity and peaks. Eleven is their only song that's not considered a national hit and even that song is still charting top 30 after "eleven" months. Love Dive had 28 weeks in the top 10, Afterlike had many PAKs and over 600k ULs.

They are disqualified due to paying filial duty to the Senior Singer.

It appears paying filial duty to the 1,343 years old living fossil seems to be a rite of passage for all these new acts.

At least the newer acts are distancing from ballads. It is always the vocals who want to sing some ballads once in a while...

Oh they will do ballad-ish songs, when they get around to releasing 5+ songs. Unavoidable.

    NJ's Hurt is a ballad. R&B

Ive, so far has managed not to.. but they have been releasing 1 or 2 songs at time. But have been doing enough covers, including of the Tyrannous Regina IU.

Though TTN foisted the 'ballad' singer impression on her, it seems 'Hold My Hand' and 'Blueming' are changing her signature.

Even Hyolyn - the very persona of a dance powerhouse + belting, wants 'Hold My Hand'.

Her longevity lies in that changing signature. Good Day --> You & I --> TTN, but now Eight/Love Poem/Blueming/Hold My Hand are competing, of the 4 only Love Poem is a clear Ballad.

Oh that is easy to answer.

Whichever 4th Gen GG that does NOT AT ALL pay any FILIAL duty to the SENIOR SINGER, totally ignores her. And more important completely ignores K-O-R-E-A-N-S, touring only outside Korea etc., absolutely avoids ballads, releases only dance music etc.,

    is the victor.

    Right WhyKnock8o

Unfortunately it never happens, all of them eventually fall to the thralldom of the Tyrannous Senior Singer.

Seriously I don't know why Awards shows can't figure this out,

    - Use sales data as just eligibility for nomination.

    - Nominees can choose to perform at the awards show or not.

-Judges will cast their votes, after the performances in the show, giving the performers a chance to swing some votes.

    - if they want, Fans who tune in to the broadcast also get to vote, at a lesser weight than judges- that will ensure TRP.

The technology is there. So why this nonsense every year.

So I think it is intentional, noise marketing by making controversial choices.

Is that ULs for the day.. 24 hrs ..ok.

So while twitter is abuzz about Genie Awards playing dirty - IU still tops daily ULs, though others have released hit songs more recently.

That is the way to render Awards as obsolete.

Data has been democratized, any one who cares to checkup, easily knows which songs and artists are hits or not. More the Awards diverge from the data, more irrelevant they would be.

I think it is correct to weigh downloads more than streaming, since downloads does take an additional measure of investment from the fan, than streaming.

Gaon has been looking to incorporate YT music, but if I remember correct, it is YT failing to divulge reliable data.

So it makes YT statistics more suspect with ad spend and what not.

It is better to forgo one channel than to take inaccurate data.

But yes, I do agree that Gaon is limited, nevertheless has a larger coverage that Melon, which is increasingly losing market share.

For now, it will be better to use both Melon ULs and Gaon points.
