The cold truth is SM will at least hinder the senior acts' activities, which is why Super Junior, who now does its own producing (Shindong is the producer), is still under SM. At least SJ members appear to keep a larger portion of what they earn.
Shinhwa is the only act which left SM successfully. SM retained Jonghyun and Sulli to the end ; its philosophy is that once you are part of SM you do not leave. Jessica Jung is a US citizen so she did not have to stay in Korea which is why she was more frank about leaving. Same to Tiffany Young, although she did not fight SM. Sooyoung and Seohyun are now actresses so they do not deal with SM too much but Taeyeon is a different case.
Ah thanks that makes sense why Taeyeon is still in SM when I think she could've become way bigger and in more control of her career if she left SM. Sucks cause I think she'd be happier, have more freedom, power and more successful outside SM. Same with EXO, I thought I heard from their fans that some members and their leader Suho threw shade at SM and fans been wanting them to leave but athey still renewed their contracts with SM afterwards What GOT7 pulled recently, I thought that was what EXO would've done but I was wrong. Same with SNSD, I wished they left SM like SHINHWA. There must be some kind of guilt-tripping and gaslighting by SM towards their idols.
But Henry is able to leave SM on good terms and start his own company ( altho he was sad and dissapointed Yoo Hee Yeol didn't sign him under his company) and still have a career on variety shows, released music and even went to promote on music shows and KBS's Sketchbook. Tho the success is yet to be seen although he's doing well, able to promote, still appeared on I Live Alone and his activities didn't seem to be hindered that much by SM.
As for SJ, they under SM's sub-label called Label SJ which they have their own management/producing team to an extent. Tho idk how different it is being under Label SJ (although they are technically under SM) compared to being under SM Ent (the main company).
Seeing Rain's and Sunmi's success after leaving JYP and GOT7 having the guts not renewing their contracts and leave makes me think JYP is probably isn't as bad as SM towards their artists that left the company.

IU effectively owns her own company while everyone in SM has to answer to Sooman.
In other words, while Taeyeon and others have to wait approval from Sooman to do anything , IU can approve her own actions.
Which makes all the difference since Sooman's priority is on male acts , especially NCT now, while IU's priority is herself.
Let's say Taeyeon or any SM senior artists/idols decided to leave SM after their contract expires, do you think they will fare better in terms of their music career? Or would SM be cockblocking them?
I'm talking abt amicable departure from SM (with mutual respect and on good terms) unlike JYJ's/Jessica's messy departure. I mean hypothetically speaking if any acts leave SM - I'm wondering both in terms of solo careers (e.g. Taeyeon, BoA, Taemin, Baekhyun) and groups (looking at HOT, SNSD, etc. where some members left and some members stayed in SM so it's pretty much uncertain hiatus/disbandment, so we knew how that turned out but would there be a chance of any groups successfully pulling a SHINHWA where all members leave but who still maintain their popularity after they left SM? Is there a possibility of pulling SHINHWa during this time and era? Or would SM be acting like a petty ex-gf/ex-bf by cockblocking, sabotaging, and hindering their success after they leave the company even on good terms?)
