k-pop stans have a really crooked definition of what a fan is istg. Who's buying her tickets if she doesn't have fans?

it was only a matter of time ever since youtube chart was included on instiz really
Other IU songs that wouldnt have gotten pak with youtube included:
Blueming (peak #2)
Give you my heart (peak #8)
Lilac (peak #2)
Strawberry moon (peak #1, but too late for pak)
Lilac was a yt error tho I remember. For whatever reason they weren't counting the MV views for the songs chart🧐

Appreciate the effort but this list still feels way too heavily leaning towards post 2019 songs... Just looking at IU's entry songs in this speaks A LOT. One cannot convince me that celebrity lilac hold my hands or even eight (and most of the songs on this list for what matters) are bigger hits than Good day, you & I and friday.
It's impossible to compare like this imo cause this doesn't take into consideration how streaming, or whatever happened, influenced longevity and made charts stall

In Twitter, the above quote is being read as a shade against Blackpink.. I am not sure why.
I do think a better word than 'validation', would have been 'Western markets'.
But BP is not the only group trying tiktok, TV shows, events to achieve more exposure.
Or am I wrong.
But the nice thing is even so, Blinks are angry at the journalist, than IU.
are u ignoring stuff on purpose or what? if you saw the tweets and how blinks reacted, how didn't you see the reason?
jennie is obviously the one with the hbo cameo and the writer is ,quote directly from them, "a proud BP anti" with previous tweets accusing them of searching "western validation"

Yes, digitals are the prevalent medium of music, that is why it would be only fans who would spend on a physical, which mostly they wouldn't be listening, just having as a collectible.
And yes, we can't determine the size of the fandom based on sales, because of bulk buying which will incorrectly show a larger fandom or crowd sourced buying, which will incorrectly show a smaller fandom.
But is there any other way to assess the fandom - but for physical sales?
Even providing for inaccuracies, it is the best metric for a fandom.
How is people turning up on every comeback for years not fandom tho? you can be a "fan" and not a "stan"
if someone can't afford merch are they not a fan?
-
More the physical sales, more the fandom.
is it tho? music consumption changes, 10 years ago maybe you would have been right but now digitals is the prevalent source of music... i don't think that fandom's bulk buys means you have a bigger fandom just a more devoted one. anyway a high% of those sales are outside of korea so it does not even matter

that's honestly so smart... others should follow

Domestic chart only uses Bugs, (Korean)Spotify, Flo, Melon, Genie - and now apple music.
Global Kpop chart includes all those + Spotify and YT I believe.
As for why they don't include korean Youtube, perhaps their not confident in it's ability to correctly confine it's chart data to South Korea only, or perhaps they want additional things to certify domestic, such as ULs (which the video from the Gaon Vice President makes clear they have, even if they don't include it themselves).
Another factor is YT music is by far the lowest revenue share per stream, and perhaps that's a point of contention, as GAON is a certified body for revenue distribution.
i know that's what i'm confused about if they use total streams from yt do they do the same for korean charts for the global chart? since they most probably use uls for their digital chart
cause why would they use 2 completely different type of data collection for the same chart
