Delve into technical detail how KOMCA credits songs? Then we might find that many songs have 50+ people involved, yet the general perception is of the person who performs the main performance content.
In this case IU did not promote it, other than a tweet/insta post (?), she did not do MV. lyrics etc., just only gave her vocals.
So what decides if a song is IUs (or anyone's)?
Production - then many of BTS songs might not be theirs.
Songwriting - again the same issue.
Performance - then this is an IU song.
Promotion - then IU and others have many B-sides which have zero promotions, other than being part of the album.
So it is just 'Perception' I suppose. As with most things K-pop, including what defines 'K-pop', there is no solid definitions, other than popular perception.

It's been a very long time ago since she did a commercial song (except osts). She wasn't as big as she is now.

I could ask the same thing, personally I think some of those daesangs could've easily go to other artists, especially album of the year. MU was huge and you're talking about one of their biggest domestic and internationally acts and Coldplay, which is self explanatory, I'd say go enjoy your fav's wins instead of throwing shade at others.

If anything, people should have been making a bigger deal for this, since Bonsang is the biggest award you can get beside Daesang. AKMU should not have win this award over 5 other nominates.

but anyway as people is saying here, there are downloads and "melon internal data" whatever that is and akmu had a pretty successful album (so more tracks to dowload) and these predictions aren't correct 100% so a margin of error of at least 2 points is possible

I think you should let it go. Granted, we don't know what the actually data they have used but it's the most fair and accurate out of most award shows.
See this chart below. Akmu won the bonsang, but the data doesn't agrees. It's the only oddball bases on the data. Maybe MMA want to award AKMU with the top 10 and take away this award. Just my guess.
