Same omg we're becoming the new boomers
i admit there's some fun content though, but seems like the most stupid ones are the ones that get more attention. Well tiktok users are mostly children so shouldn't be a big surprise based on what they already watch on youtube
THAT MADE ME WEEP IMAGINE BEING IN YOUR 20S AND BEING TOO OLD TO USE AN APP EYE-
Yeah most of the TikToks on my page now are for people closer to my age, but like can someone please explain to me and my born in 1991 ass why Addison Rae and Bella Poarch are so popular? Like I looked through their pages, and yeah, sure, they're both pretty, but so are a lot of people. And as far as the actual content? No hate at all, but I legitimately don't understand it at all how they have 50m-75m followers. -
I mean I'm glad Red Velvet is getting more exposure, but, like, I legitimately don't get this trend. I joined like 2 weeks ago, but I knew I was way too old to understand TikTok once I saw someone saying something about the "older generation of TikTok" users being born in the late 90s.

This is basically how I viewed it. Obviously it's for SM as a company, not just NCT, but the whole premise behind NCT was to be have localized groups all around the world. SuperM was supposed to take advantage of the existing fanbases the members already had in the US and grow the SM brand from there, which I think was a good idea in theory. Unfortunately, it was just not executed well. I still think the project had a lot of potential though before Covid ruined a lot of things, but I actually believe think the potential is still there if they can get their shit together.

This has always happened. It's just that the new AKP forums are encouraging fanwars rather than suppressing them like before.

I don't mind not being able to understand, but I wouldn't say it's the best part. A lot of the music I listen to has no words anyway, but when it comes to actually sung songs, for me some are enhanced by understanding the lyrics and the themes, sometimes it makes no difference, or occasionally is possibly a detriment. It just depends on the song.

I agree. I can see why people would be sad about it, especially if it's their favorite member, but there are main/lead positions for a reason. I actually never really paid attention to line distribution, but when it comes to screen time in MVs, I notice this more, and I think this should ideally be more or less equal.

I think there are very few here who have actually seen a large enough amount of performances from both to have a decent sample size, but either way, for me there is no "better". If you were to compare them both performing the exact same song and choreography, perhaps I can see which one I like better, but that would only be just that one performance anyway. I think they both perform extremely well, and when I watch a really great performance I'm engrossed, and not really thinking about any other performance to compare it to. Turning everything into a competition isn't really how I enjoy my art, and usually takes away from it for me.

My top 15, as someone who prefers always prefers B-sides no matter the group. In no particular order:
Good Thing (Limitless)Superhuman (We Are Superhuman)
FOOL (We Are Superhuman)
Boom (The B-side in NeoZone)
Day Dream (NeoZone)
Love Song (NeoZone)
Elevator (NeoZone. I really love this album okay?)
Misfit (Resonance)
Dancing In The Rain (Resonance)
From Home (Resonance)
Turn Back Time (Awaken The World)
Unbreakable (Awaken The World)Domino (Awaken The World)
I don't dislike Dream, but they're less so my style, and none of their songs make my top 15. -

His best release yet for me. I'm having trouble ranking the songs because I genuinely love all of them.

I was using a bit of hyperbole to make a point. Granted, I am also distinguishing the term "stan" from "fan" based on my own probably arbitrary definition, but when I meant more was that people who "stan" artists in pop music tend to be extremely focused on the sales/awards/achievements/status of the artists, often talking about those things far more than the music itself. Now I am not on any western pop music forums, but I have observed this on Twitter, and Reddit and places like that. This contrasts to a lot with "indie" or rather just lesser known artists, where of course people want them to be successful, but for example, I used to be on a progressive rock forum and most of the posts were in depth musical analyses with almost no mention of sales or awards and the like. I will add that I am not making a positive or negative judgement either way. People should be able to enjoy their hobbies in whatever manner they please, but just making an observation based on the prompt of the thread.

To be honest, it was hard for me to get over the cringe factor when I first heard it. I did like some aspects of it, but after listeing to it intentionally maybe twice, I never did again. I did mostly enjoy the mini album though. I decided to listen to it again after the announcement that SuperM was coming out with a new album, and it was still cringey, but I did enjoy and appreciate it somewhat more, though not enough to put it on any of my playlists. I didn't have much in the way of expectations for Super One, but I was definitely pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the album as a whole.

yeah I am going to have to disagree here. You can't chart if you have no name recognition. Nct is a 5 year old group and can sell a million albums easy, but if you ask Koreans on the street they think they are 4th gen. You think with this level of recognition they are ever going to chart, regardless of the type of music they put out?
Perhaps I was not clear enough, but I would encourage you to take it in the context of my entire post, rather than focus on that one aspect. Yes, music is not the main reason someone charts, but you DO have to make "chartable" music as a baseline. Making music that charts well is a very straightforward, tried and true process that pop music companies all over the world use. You really don't even have to know all that much about music to listen to all the top charting songs and note the similarities. The bulk of the resources are spent promoting and marketing the artist to have widespread appeal in whatever market you are attacking, and while of course exceptions exist, for that you need a company with reach and influence.
If we are to use the NCT example you proposed, SM Entertainment has both the reach and the influence. What they didn't have was the intention. The age of the group is irrelevant. The key is the target market. An artist can promote for 50 years in a particular market and not be known at all in another. NCT has always had a Western target market. How many Kpop "experts" on these forums/twitter/etc have gone on and on about how SM should have just made another SNSD or another EXO (or focused on those groups themselves)? They've done a lot of shitty things, but they are not stupid. Of course, they knew that this was an option, and a good one to make money. But their interest, as a large corporation, first and foremost is the long term growth of their company and brand, and to do that they needed to reach beyond South Korea. Speaking of EXO, they were already beginning to do that as their main target market was clearly China before it all went to shit with the members leaving and the political issues. But they adapted, and were was able to make Exo huge in South Korea too. -
as well as dance stans.....
I GOT COUPLE OF THINGS TO SAY:-
Recently I saw a thread openly bashing Idol Rappers by saying most Idol rappers are bad and their ruin the songs. No company stans were called out.
Also,
There will be a thread like this on vocals too, and you can sure as HELL bet that whoever made the thread will be called a SM STAN.
Double standards?
So if both of those things (Vocals, Rap) are so awful and ruin the songs, WHY TF ARE YOU A KPOP STAN?
Surely for Visuals or Charts/Achievements or Dance.
Also, I see a lot of people saying KPOP rappers are bad and KPOP vocalists are bad, KPOP songs are rarely catchy (literally said this), KPOP songs are trash etc
I don't see why you downplay KPOP so much and then go on and spend time on KPOP forums?
Sometimes it's very baffling to see this. It doesn't even make sense at all.
My point is,
Lot of you are very selective on what you say about different groups/artists.
Perhaps unpopular opinion, but the vast majority of pop (not just Kpop) music stans are mostly success stans, with a sprinkling of varying other priorities. We are often just not self-aware enough to realize it. -
Probably you are right... maybe it's just me thinking kpop is bigger in korea than it actually is.
This is really the key here. Kpop IS big in Korea, as in proportionally, it's (probably) bigger in South Korea than any other country, but as others have mentioned, SK's population is only 50m. To put things in perspective, California alone is almost as populous, and just 2 cities in China have more people like Shanghai and Beijing combined. That's why Kpop companies are largely abandoning South Korea as their target market. If they just wanted to make music that charts well, they could. However, they've basically already reached the peak of how much they can make there, and they (theoretically) have unlimited opportunity abroad.

Song was just pretty good for me, but the MV is a masterpiece.
