reading some people's reactions to this issue was truly shocking to me. kpop fans are as bas as kpop companies when it comes to objectifying idols and erasing their humanity.

and finally, hear this from a fan of SM groups, Hybe fans are shooting themselves in the feet by standing with Hybe and defending them in this issue. this is not a personaly vendetta against the NJ girls as people, this is the company's Modus Operandi and (non existent) moral compass and your faves WILL be subjected to it at some point in their career.

I hope you're right and that things changed for the better in recent years but tbh, I have been in kpop long enough to make my own observations. You'd be horrified to read about some of the shit many male idols did or said that barely made any splash and are completely forgotten now.

What I observed is that most of the time, people who bring up idols' past scandals and transgressions are antis or people from rival fandoms. Groups that don't have rivals and aren't considered a threat by other fandoms (like SHINee's case) tend to have their issues easily ignored and forgotten because there is no one with an active agenda to keep bringing them up.

Sadly it's nearly impossible to deny that fandom agendas play a key factor in people's reactions to idols' scandals. Even in this thread there are people who are very clearly treating this as a gotcha or payback.

What's even more upsetting here is that the girl wasn't even dancing on his table like some fans love to claim. She was dancing on a low rising platform (30cm)that's meant specifically for dancing. He is the one who was sitting next to the platform.

This is a perfect case of victim blame at play, fans twisting facts and playing on words to indirectly - or in this case directly- accuse the victim of promiscuity and therefore create this idea of her being less deserving of sympathy. See how doing what people do in clubs, aka dancing on a dance platform was magically turned into her climbing on tables to flash and seduce poor innocent men that can't control their urges.

Look, I didn't want to address your string of offensive word salads before but I'm tired of you a-dragging this on and on and b-lying about the details of the case to people who apparently weren't around when it happened and are unaware of the actual details. So here I'll share some actual facts and clarifications

-first of all I'm sorry to break it to you but Onew's intentions don't matter. What matters is the woman felt sexually molested by him. His intentions also don't matter particularly because we can not know them. His intoxicated state also doesn't matter because why exactly should the woman bear the consequences of his irresponsible drinking? That's not an excuse.

And now let me correct the wrong information you have been spreading :

1- the woman wasn't dancing on a table, she was dancing on a 30cm high platform meant specifically for dancing (not that it would have made her deserving of harassment if she had been dancing on a table like you have been implying)

2- Onew touched the woman 3 times

3- the cctv didn't prove anything in Onew's favor because that particular spot of the club was regrettably no covered by cctv

4- the woman agreed to SM's request to drop the charges but SHE STILL maintained that she was sexually harassed regardless, and her decision was influenced by the fact her identity was exposed which consequently subjected her to further harassment.

5- the only witness confirmed that Onew touched the woman. They said it LOOKED TO THEM like Onew only did it for support but even they can't possibly confirm that

6- no one contested or argued against the victim's claims that she was molested. Onew said he was too drunk to remember and SM said there was an agreement to drop charges but even they didn't argue that he was innocent.

7- the prosecution eventually dismissed the case because the victim was uncooperative (point 4) and because there was no cctv footage, not because Onew was proven innocent like you claim.

8- if you think Onew's "apology" has any relevance here then boy are you wrong. Onew apologised to his "loving" fans, his teammates, his parents and the company. He didn't event apologise to the victim or clearly acknowledge the incident. And most importantly the apology was coincidentally only done right after fans threatened to boycott the group's season greeting merch if SM didn't remove Onew from the group.

And finally, to answer your actual question : yes, I do categorise him as a sexual molestor

This would actually explain why this incident didn't hit the news all this time. But I don't know how trustworthy it is. I read someone else say this is standard procedure in their country, but does anyone know if it's the same in SK?

If the secrecy was solely for the sake of protecting the victim and preventing the perpetrator from preemptively taking action against the victim or the investigation process then I'm all for it.

I just can't trust that SM isn't bluffing to save face.

Why would it take the police 2 months to inform someone they're being accused of SA? I understand investigation taking time but I don't understand why it would take that long to even simply tell him? Both Onew and Lucas had sexual assault cases and yet SM stood behind them till the end. This only means that Taeil's case is more serious and / or there's no legally possible way to defend him out of it (like in Onew's case for example where they claimed he was too drunk to realise what he was doing)
