But male gaze-y isn't about a group being sexy, it's specifically around the way the content is shot and/or framed (ie upskirt, submissive positions, helpless).

This is sexy but not male gaze-y. She is active and not passive and even the angles reflect that - she's looking directly into the camera.

Man, this reminds me of the tennis photos but extra helpings of naw to the naw.

1. As many have noted, having minors in these sequences is problematic.
That should stop the discussion right there but okay.

2. If you know people in or work in the entertainment industry, awful and skeezy casting call/photoshoot stories are a dime a dozen (for both women and men - for those that are pretty and for those that are pretty but not quite conventionally so and have already heard multiple nos from casting…

I also felt like this when people called out the girls tennis outfits as being something slutty when they're just outfits. I'm still trying to figure out what triggered kpop stans SO badly about how the way it was shot that you wouldn't find in 80% kpop MVs.. and also not over about the word casting being disgusting, when that's literally the term for models interview, that has absolutely nothing sexual about it.

I thought the tennis outfits were fine other than the way the minor was posing in hers, which felt not appropriate for a teenager, IMO. (I don't remember her name, but she was kneeling with spread legs in a short skirt and a sort of come-hither face. If they just put her knees together or turned her to the side, it would have worked.) The pose she was in is a "sexy" trope usually suited to male entertainment type photography.

You meant this one (she's the only teenager along with eunchae)? Idk I just see her a posing, and don't see her face as nothing but a resting face.. and she poses like that because it'll make her body look better in the fit but I didn't make myself clear, my bad, when I meant "the way it was a shot" I was talking about their introduction video, which I just cannot see what's so bizarre about it.

And just to clarify better my point: I'm not saying they don't have intentions with those pics, I know they do, they're meant to attract fans, make people look at these girls and think how beautiful they are, the thing is I just don't see what's so out of ordinary about these girls pics that will scream male gazey that goes beyond what we always see in kpop, I even see them as tame.

The male gaze is never about the clothes women wear. I feel such arguments are tangentially brought up to undermine the actual concerns people have about the exploitation of women and importantly of minors we see in media. (Not just kpop)

Ever since the Kim Garam's controversy, I've seen this word being thrown around a lot and honestly, I feel so insulted as a woman who like girl groups. Why everything a girl does or wears has to revolve around men?
