Do you think there's a difference between how male and female idols are expected to look and behave?

  • I also think it weird that giving female idols a Lolita-sequel image is acceptable but male idols have never been marketed as such. Sexualizing a child-like image is disgusting but apparently as long as it’s with women, it’s okay. :watt: :watt: :watt:

  • yeah some things that male idols did are praised for being savage or cool but if female idols did the same things they will be called rude.even their natural rbf faces people will call them arrogant and rude :boredr:

Are there any female idols that have savage rep? I enjoy the savageness of the jinyoungs and kihyuns of kpop, but ofc, they are also known to be polite and kind as well.

The lolita thing drives me insane. I can't stand how some styling mixes child-like attributes with sex appeal.

You're right, guys don't really get that. ...well, there was that Shinee photoshoot...

  • girlgroups have bigger casual listeners and also appeal to general public more and has wider reach

so lots of eyes on them so they are more harshly judged

while boygroups usually not much popular beyond their female fanbase so not much attention given to them so less judgement, also most of the praise they get is in the end coming from mostly their own fanbase

Oh that makes sense. Bgs just don't get as much attention from non-stans, both positive and negative.

And if you aren't a stan and just casually listen, you're likely to judge more harshy. Good point.

  • It makes me feel icky <X

    Wait, what Shinee photoshoot? :wow:

  • fox-blink.gif

    I have no words…

  • let's just take avery small piece of the overall puzzle and look at something like weight...

    For females

idols and hell even trainees are expected to be under a certain weight - if they don't they go to some ridiculous lengths to lose that weight aka momo and ice cubes

another example might be swan from purple kiss who is perfectly fine to me but from an female kpop idol perspective she is above average and got shit on for her weight when she debuted or look at certain people (not here) shitting on Jeongyeon from Twice after her hiatus about her weight

    for dudes

Shindong is probably the "biggest" idol I know from a weight perspective and (to my knowledge) no one gives him shit for that

I'm also not sure if male idols and trainees have to be under a certain weight...I've never heard of it but many someone can inform me if they are required

  • they have also put restrict standards on male idols

for example SHINee members were not allowed to eat after 7pm at all even though they were all teenagers

Also now that they talk about the past alot, they had alot of fights over fruits like blueberries and peaches bc that was the only things they were allowed to eat.

so male idols/trainees also have weigh ins and shit like that? wow...
