There is really no need for watching Awards shows live these days. Most people really only watch to see the performances or maybe who won. You can watch the performance on YouTube, and you can check Twitter to see who won.
There is literally no reason to sit there and watch it for 2 or 3 hours. I suspect that the people who are still watching it are doing it more out of tradition or to support their faves. Television is dead, and awards shows are dying.

There’s no way I would have watched in any form if it hadn’t been for BTS. When I was a kid, awards shows seemed like big deals, with big performances or scandalous moments. You felt like you didn’t wanna miss out. Now it’s mostly just a load of lengthy self-importance and smarming up to each other and bad jokes and dialled-in performances. And you know you can see the performances the next day on social media, so why force yourself to sit through all the guff?
I dunno, maybe it’s not the awards shows. Maybe it’s just me getting old? But, y’know.
