Could kpop survive without music videos?

  • Uncle fans are not the majority of Twice's fans. There were people of all ages at the Twice concerts in the US.

I'm sure Uncle fans like music too.

But you are referring to kpop fans in the US which probably makes up only 7% of total kpop fans in the world.

We all remember the fanchants at pre covid Twice music shows in Korea. There wasn't a single female in attendance.

    You're very good at overgenaralizing.

Everything you say is stuffed with hyperbole.

Back on topic, any sweeping changes like that would affect the industry sure. But they would adapt.

I left my heart in LA again. Please continue taking good care of it.

  • serious reply though, i have a feeling it will overall effect the hype for kpop, but not the listeners. its pretty clear kpop gets a lot of hype for the colorful MVs and scenes + choreographies. without all of that in MVs, kpop kinda loses its pizazz

hmmm kpop probably wouldn't be as widely popular without the visual part of the medium but that doesn't mean it wouldn't survive.

I think the only artists that would survive would be artists like Epik High and IU. Because they make real music. Not manufactured music.

i think there are plenty others you're forgetting, but those two i believe would do well, yeah.

  • Sure, but it wouldn't be Kpop then.

It is the visual aspect of the industry that is a major differentiator.

Idol Groups aren't bands with different skills, they aren't Acapella vocalists like Big Mamma or balladeers like 2AM.

Their main focus is dance- point choreography.

That is consumed only via MVs.

K-pop is music seen. And fans drool over visuals.

If that is removed not many of the major acts would survive.

Most of the music is rather rehashed bops, lesser said about the lyrics, better. Other streams like opera, folk, theater have far better vocalists.

So it is MVs which set the tone for Kpop.

It is the screen presence that makes K-pop.

As IU said, musicians sing to the stages, idols sing to the cameras.
