Which Kpop idol has most potential to be a successful soloist in the west?

  • Beakhyun

    He has the best vocals.

  • If they want to, they would need to completely re-invent themselves because the American industry has a very "specific" image of a foreigner. I think Shakira is a good example: she completely changed everything about her image to debut in America.

In the past I think Hyuna could have had a good chance, she never tried with her "rapping" but her songs were very catchy. PSY was smart to choose her.

I think Rose/V/JK could do well but I don't see them shedding the "kpop" barrier simply because of how well known BTS and BP are, so they wouldn't be as mainstream. Jennie has the looks/vibe people would enjoy, and her solo situation is a bit similar so long as she doesn't go all tryhardy w the rap.

I think the kpop idol who can be a successful soloist in the west that is mainstream, would be one NOT from either BTS or BP, but from a less-well known group to the general international populace.

I've also been looking at Lelush's rise to fame in Cpop...I think a freak break-out could happen in the American industry.

  • Jennie and also probably Rose with the correct aesthetic.

I also could see SOMI if she makes the right connections and gets a few smash collabs.

    Agree with this,

I actually have a feeling with BiBi. She has all that takes, including a not so kpop-y image.

  • Jennie. I think she has the image and charisma to bring something different to the international pop market. I could see her as a mid tier pop star. I think she could take what Sunmi does and have much bigger success with it.

LA and New York are awash in swishy-haired indie pop princesses with guitars and tulle dresses. Without Blackpink's fandom Rosie might get lost in the crowd. If she loves music for its own sake she might welcome that though.

At the very least Lisa has SEA in the bag and a decent Chinese fanbase so she'll always enjoy some form of success. She would need to leave YG altogether to grow because they don't seem to respect her much.

I don't see any other current gg member having a shot. Obviously Jungkook - He'll be huge when/if he goes solo.

  • No one. KPOP is like child actors on Disney. The only way to shed that image is to do something drastic or make unconventional changes.

People listing BTS or BP members lol. I know they're great and all, but yall delulu tbh.

  • people who are saying jungkook got to be dreaming

his collaborations are under bts and hybe only gave him a webtoon ost

doubt that he will be promoted in the west

  • somi.

western market is too racist for a full asian but somi's only half. plus she has west appealing visuals, she speaks fluent english, understands western culture, and her discography is solid.

The title clearly mentioned the word "potential"

No Korean solo artist can get organically popular in the US, Kpop as a whole blew up because it is unlike something we have seen in the states while kpop solo artist bring nothing new to the table. As harsh as it might sound but the truth is that most of these korean artists trying to hit big in the states just copy western artists, why would you want a copy when the original is already there.

Jungkook (cuz he's the most popular member) has the most potential because he has armys behind him which won't let him flop, so he already has some sort of base in the US already

Edited once, last by superyeah: One part was omitted because poster was being too mean. xD ().

  • I might be the odd one. but i think RM from BTS will do great. He's fluent in English, his collab with western artists like Wale, Fall Out boys turned so great even at that time BTS was still not massive as now.

In contrary with other members, he seems to have most fanboy or i should say male admirers in the west - lots of rappers, songwriters, producers look up to him and kept saying he's underrated.

He has the confidence in himself, I totally can see him as a successful rapper or even songwriter/producer in the West. Yeah he's my best bet for now.
