Is not understanding lyrics/interviews a real issue for you too ?

  • Curious because I'm kinda frustrated with reading the lyrics / not understanding the vlogs. So I'm thinking of starting learning seriously Korean as a result.

Did some of you did the same ? Do you have any tips pls ?

  • I can totally understand the frustration. I'd say if that's something you're interested in and you want to learn it, go for it! In the meantime, for some stuff like vlogs, they do get subtitles, you just have to turn them on and they may or may not be available right away (it depends on the group). For the songs, I know English covers are diverse in quality, but they are an option, or you could use those English lyric videos if you want to. I know BLACKPINK has a couple all English songs too. Speaking of which, I love your username and profile picture!

Oh, before I forget, welcome to the forum! I'm glad we have new people here! If you ever need help figuring something out or understanding something, I'll see if I can help. Also, if you ever need any akorns, let me know and I can send you some. I like to think of myself as pretty generous with my akorns, so I'll probably say yes. Have a great day/night!

  • Why will I be into music in languages I don’t know if understanding lyrics was an integral part of my music experience :pepepizza:

That is a good question. Maybe they just really love their singing voices (even if they can't understand what they are singing about) or the instrumental is just really good. Different people have different priorities when it comes to listening to music.

  • no, it doesn't bother me. i grew up listening to english music and i didn't understand it back then. thankfully translations exist if you want to know what the song is about.

as for the interviews and vlogs, i try to watch only with subs, i only make exceptions for bts.

Thank you for this I'll definitely need help ! dw about akorns, I'm still wandering around the forum right now xD

  • Sometimes i wish i could sing along to the songs i love fully but then i remember I can't even do that for songs in my native language lol.

For understanding purposes of lyrics armys have a good amount of translators that are useful who also provide multiple perspectives and I can atleast understand the context of the situation in videos as I've been watching kdramas for a lot longer than k-pop.

Got it! You can always DM me at any time and ask all the questions you want to. I also know tons of nice people on here I can introduce you to if you ever find yourself needing a couple new friends on here. Sounds good, I'll hang onto my akorns for just a bit longer then.

Haha kinda the same here xD But from the translations that I have been reading most songs don't seemed that complicated in terms of vocabulary diversity - and tends to repeat themselves (so that we can sing chorus lol)

That's very true. With pop music, writers tend to either repeat words or use commonly used words more so that people can catch onto those faster. So it's a bit easier in comparison ig
