How americans vote

  • California recently changed Election to a Popular Run Off model. The two candidates with most Votes during the Primary election is on the final Ballot. It put the Major Political Party Candidates on the ballot. Third Party Candidates will likely never make it to the final Ballot. This election procedure change was championed by the Democrat Party.

Electoral College is a Republic Election model. Individual Vote and State Vote are both represented. Same reasoning there is two Senators per State. It is what the Colonies demanded during the formation of the United States. The President and Vice President are the only elected officials elected by the Electoral College Procedure.

  • Me being the only one here that likes the electoral college :peperain:

No system is perfect and I understand why it was put in place to begin with.

So I'm okay with it, regardless who wins despite losing the popular vote.

I'm not referring to the electoral college -- I'm referring to how we decide who wins the votes for the electoral college points to be awarded

essentially how we count votes. (electoral college has not much issue)

In the US, most votes are counted using the First Past The Post system; one vote per voter, person that comes out with most votes wins

I'm advocating for Instant Runoff Voting, and because its more friendly to more parties getting involved.

Also protects against the spoiler effect.

Too bad this kind of system still retains most of the chronic issues with the old system - people usually vote for the "not that guy" because their favorite candidate probably got eliminated. It still favors the two biggest parties and still won't solve all of the political locking that happens.

  • sorry everyone was just talking about so I decided to just chime in on it heh

To your idea, it seems pretty neat. Wouldn't mind doing that to be honest. But it feels that if someone's fave candidate didn't win they'll call any system rigged lmao.

If this system can entice more independent voters to actually vote it would be pretty nice. Otherwise, it's still just another party vs. party battle.

  • been in this damn country all my life and the system is not perfect. People are just too accustomed to things and never want actual damn change. It's all comfort food and a no brainer with a system that has been long in effect since the foundation of the country.

whether the electoral college is ditched for good or altered as suggested, am for that testing process.

yea I agree 100% if there is a testing phase for a new voting system SIGN ME TF UP lmao

I think that the idea that simple is best is quite misleading often times because we do have the simplest voting system and yet its one of the worst out there.

  • but it's never gonna happen I mean the political parties have no reason to want to change it when it does not benefit them...

  • What if there is still only one candidate appears in a ranking vote...and people do this takes up the majority of all voters..?

More than some die hard supporters of certain candidates may do this I guess.
