globally it seems to golike this globally: JK/Tae > Jimin > Suga > Jin > RM > Jhope.. it's hard to guess tae and jk cuz one is the king of tiktok has the most viewed individual hashtag for a person in the site, has the most streamed bts solo song on spotify and most liked twt on bts twitter group account while the other while the other is the king of instagram and seems to have the most casual stans, but one thing is: these two are always top 1 and 2 in popularity

Instagram is a place where aesthetics and gorgeous people are worshipped. It's not surprising V is the most followed member, his face is art. After the maknae line the most followed is J-hope, his profile is aesthetics perfection. Suga is the least followed, for whatever reason.
As for their popularity; I'd say Jungkook is the most popular but it's that close that V might be the most popular too. It's really close. Jimin is 3rd, Suga is 4th and i think the rest three are pretty similar. If i had to rank them, J-hope certainly wouldn't be the last, even tho everyone puts him there. He's the most followed Korean solo artist on Spotify, it's both unfair and stupid to place him there.

looking at their insta followers (just one metric), the popularity gap isn't really as huge as i expected/everyone thinks. the last few years, things have evened out a bit. ofcourse ml is still leading without a doubt, but it really seems like all 7 aren't that ridiculously far from each other.
i used insta followers because it's the most recent metric all of them started at the same time.
jk rules tiktok/pinterest/youtube.., V rules insta/google, jimin rules soundcloud/brand rankings/.., jhope rules spotify,...

Suga is the most popular after maknae line.

V has more casuals JK is the most biased in the fandom
Suga has the second casual fanbase due to his AGUSTD mixtapes
RM is the known member in the west but not necessarily the most famous.
The most popular are clearly JK and V with Jimin solid 2nd. Suga is a solid 3, he is not far from Jimin, his stans are generally less loud tho
RM/Jhope/Jin battle it out for 4, RM has more casuals the Jhope and Jin, while I think Jin is the most biased among them, and Jhope is even in both casuals+fandom.
I think the popularity is not that different between members. So a total ranking would be hard

I misread it.

He's the most popular in south korea but globally Tae and JK are more popular than him, he's the 3rd most popular globally tho

the gap used to be much bigger a few years ago but nowadays all members seem evenly loved. Every member has gone viral among the fandom for one reason or another, be it memes and funny moments, solo music, beauty, performance or for whatever reason. I see different bts members on my youtube feed all the time. It is imo very unrealistic to expect every single member of a group to have the exact same numbers of followers, streams, mentions or fans in general
And to be honest if I became an Army in these days I wouldn't be able to tell the most popular member, simply because of how expansive the term and definition has become.

What was the gap a few years ago?
For me it seems Jhope and Jin doesn’t really stand out so much - Suga keeps to himself a lot and RM too.
I thing gen. Z likes: Jk, V and Jimin, Suga
Boomers: RM, Jhope and Jin

I got into bts early 2019 and by far v and jk had the most solo stans. Like it was scary at that time. If the company made even a slight mistake with these two all hell would break lose. Like, I remember the the solo fights on twitter over some of the most stupid things. It got a lot better around mid 2020

I started staning them in 2016 and at that time almost everyone around me was a V stan and I was a suga biased. Rapline except suga was super underrated.
Jhope especially was really underrated till he released hope world.

It was better than current situation. At that time solos weren't this much loud.

That’s kind of weird given that the first few albums were rap based (I love them).
So Jin needs a solo like Jhope?
And when JK releases a sole it will explode again with solo stand?
