When will a big company/mid company debut a FtM or MtF? Predictions?

  • For your information :

    FtM( female to male)

    MtF( male to female)

Yeah, I'm talking about trans people.

Eventually is gonna happen and y'all know that, but when... ?

I'm afraid of the general public being harsh or the same company or Even group members trying to make this FtM or MtF person an outsider and create a lot of stress and chaotic atmosphere. ;( that wouldn't be fair!

I have a feeling that in 2025... We'll get a FtM debuting in a boy group and I'm gonna support ofc!

  • Korea does not like LGBTQ+ individuals. The younger generation is more open but if a company debuted a trans idol the back lash would be so immense, as well as the black listing. I'm not sure music bank or music shows would allow the group to preform. Realistically, this is never gonna happen.

    This reply made me sad...

I'm still hopeful that Koreans can expand their minds!!!

  • Wasn't Harisu pretty popular at one point and a lot of people reacted positively to her (and unfortunately a lot reacted negatively)? I remember there was one show who asked people on the streets what they thought of her and I was surprised by how accepting the older gens were - most of them said she's a woman and that they accept her because she transitioned. And then some of them proceeded to spew homophobic things about the rest of the lgbtq+ community. It was weird, like in a parallel universe.

  • It isn't a matter of not being able to but a simple truth that most Trainees in Big Kpop Companies start as kids, so it's not as easy as you think it is.

  • You are disgusting. It’s not funny and it’s not a joke.

    Seriously.

That comment wasn't funny in the least.

Good thing I blocked that user but quotes make it so I can see those comment lol.

Such a weird comment from them.

  • Just going to drop this friendly reminder here in light of a prior questionable comment (which has been directly addressed):

Please be mature and responsible when discussing such sensitive topics. There is never an appropriate time or place to make speculations about past or present idols in regards to their sexual identity. Jokes made under the same premise are not acceptable either.

There will be no tolerance for inappropriate comments in this thread beyond this point.

Now let’s go back on topic…

Honestly, South Korean society isn’t even close to reaching that point of tolerance and progress. As such, even the most progressive companies wouldn’t be open to it.

  • Considering idols from big/mid tiers can't even come out as gay/bi which is a lot more accepted, I feel like it might be a decade or more before we see a trans idol from a larger company

Different cultures may have different tolerance. While being gay is deemed as damnable and punishable in Islamic communities, some of them find trans acceptable to some degree.

Yet, just early this year, a soldier was fired for taking mtf surgery and later committed suicide. The court ruled kicking her out due to her changed gender violated the gender equity but, it's not like she could practically worked peacefully among those agreed to kick her out.

Societal factors aside, they are still some hurdles. For examples, in the case of mtf,

    - They may be not able to sing in female vocal range.

    - They may be apparently bigger. You must have seen girl groups with stark height differences. Yet, the size difference will be even greater in the case of mtf as, by average, men have clearly bigger skulls and broader chest to women of the same height.

    - They may suffer mood swing due to hormone supplementary.

    - Men won't find them as appealing thus, diminished marketability.

  • Korea is pretty dang bad when it comes to LGBT tolerance but there has been a mtf soloist who apparently got a lot of support so who knows? I just don't see a big company going for it when they have so many other trainees to chose from  They'd have to be insanely talented

And yeah there are also the hormonal issues which is why I'm honestly a little afraid of taking testosterone
