Actually there are still many other western ggs, they are just not as big as before to compete at the top level. Just like kpop was before, where they had alot of ggs, but not much of them relevant internationally.

Blackpink was the first, and still the only ones who won against other ggs easily in the international scene where it has been dominated by western ggs for decades

There are girl groups in the west, they just haven't become relevant which makes bp's success even more impressive. Music industry (and kpop one even more so) forgets about groups very quickly yet bp remains #1 against a shitton of competition from old and newly debuted ggs.

Of cource they are group in the west, but as you say, they are far far less common and not very popular.

Same with boygroups. Groups are not a big thing in the west anymore like it was in the 80ies, 90ies, 20ies I think everyone can agree on that.

So my point was, it's mostly only kpop och jpop groups that are doing really well and if you are number one group in kpop you pretty much autmatically are nr 1 in the world. Well maybe not when One Direction was hot, but they was one of the last big groups in the west I think? If I don't forgett any group.
