Are people underestimating YG Entertainment's talents for hype promotion, brand boosting and PR?

I actually agree with the OP. YGE's productivity and organizational capabilities might be fairly low, but their ability to generate hype is insane. They've got some great marketing people over there. I think, of the Big 3 companies, YG Ent has the best understanding of brand recognition. (Which only makes sense when you considered how much of their company is devoted to fashion, cosmetics, lifestyle and other brand-conscious industries). As companies, SM tends to be tech-focused, YG is brand-focused, JYP is values-focused. Not sure yet what kind of reputation HYBE will develop.

i doubt somi would be doing much better as an actual yge artist. i think somi not doing well is because of several reasons:
-theres less excitement for soloists in SK usually (unless its a ballad). lots of popular idols have gone solo and flopped (like suzy)
-somi isnt really respected as a musician/singer.
-her songs haven't been super great or just not SK taste
-she lost a fair bit of hype by the time she debuted
YG doesnt mean automatic success. they promoted ONE's debut well but it just made no noise. i bet somi and ONE wouldve been super popular if they were in groups but they don't have enough to do well on their own
Suzy's debut didn't flop, far from it actually. Pretend, an unpromoted pre-release went on achieve an All Kill, dethroning Ailee's OST and even achieved roofhits. The lead single of her second EP also peaked at #3 on Gaon Digital Chart.

Something that Somi's comeback made me think of.
Teddy, I think no one can deny that, has been 1 of the most productive, talented producers that K-pop has seen, with a LOT of megahits that can be directly attributed to him.
Somi has that x-factor and potential it girl vibe from the moment she entered K-pop, and she has been a beloved variety queen for ages.
This should be a golden formula for mega hits and grand comebacks that'll hit it out of the ballpark easily, right?
Except it doesn't.
Somi has had several comebacks now, and they're nowhere near on the level of 2NE1 comebacks, BP comebacks, not even Lee Hi comebacks.
What makes the difference?
The only thing I can see is YG Entertainment.
Not sure what or how they do it, but they seem to have had a really good knack in promoting their girl groups (and in the past, also their boy groups and other artists) and make them big, and make Teddy's talents and their artists' potential work for them.
While when Teddy and his team has to do it themselves, it'll just remain potential unfulfilled of his protegés.
Maybe it's still too premature, and will Somi's Dumb Dumb become a smash hit. I really hope so, she deserves it, she really has something unique and precious.
But if not, it does make one wonder.
For sure, people expecting TBL to promote like a typical Kpop label dont make no sense. I mean, just look at the label ffs, it's full of grown ass adults, some with families. Many seem like primarily producers too. Vince, 24, even Zion, they dont get promoted like idols and i dont think they ever have.

Suzy hasn’t even released a single song since like 2018 minus the unprompted OST for SU but she still managed to enter Melon 24hits.
Most of her songs didn’t flop. Suzy’s OSTs when she was at her prime always did well, two of them having 1M+ DLs. Not to mention her collab with Baekhyun. Considering, her main focus was never music, I would say she has been fairly successful as a singer.

This blackpink formula of 1 year hiatus works only when there's a loyal fandom who've got your back, somi needs frequent comebacks so she could gain some experience and confidence. She doesn't even look confident in live stages and her expressions also aren't impressive which is expected because she wasn't trained to be a solo act. She needs some more stage experience and for that she needs to make a comeback more often.
