Not surprising. Babymetal already outlived any expectations people could have had at first. It started out as a gimmick mostly. And ever since Yui's departure (Mikio Fujioka's tragic death) the project lost most of its magic and novelty.

How well did the group actually do during their 10 years activities ? Did they have good album sales? Did they chart well ? Did their concerts sell well ?
For something that started out as some kind of joke, they did tremendously well. They played on some of the biggest metal stages which is uncanny. They got accepted by the metal audience (bar a few sad pandas) and performed with the metal legend Rob Halford, and power metal household name DragonForce. Whether they were seen as a legit group (their live band was definitely legit) or some kind of fun fair attraction it doesn't matter; people were willing to see them and had a good time doing so.

they are the biggest "non conventional" female group, definitely within the top 10 most popular J-girl groups right now
