Singing vs rapping

  • Obviously it depends on different people and certain standards they set on what they want to see. Others prioritize rap and others prioritize singing. And under that there are also certain preferences others want to hear. Someone may prefer flow and delivery and another may prefer lyrics when it comes to rap. In the same way another may prefer vocal techniques to vocal colours whiles another may be vice versa

It’s just a matter of preference at the end of the day and what they are looking for to stan in a group.

  • It all depends on what style of music the artist or group is doing. Being a great singer or singing group is easily more respected across hemispheres and ages. Because of group positions in K-Pop, the singing standards aren't uniform. A weak main singer would be scrutinized more harshly than any other position in terms of singing ability. Skilled id0l singers are respected a heck of a lot more by artists outside of "id0ldom".

Being a skilled rapper or even earning a title of MC is still generally respected less although it takes more creative skill to write all your own hooks and rhymes. Generally, even in the West, a lot of people primarily focus on the rap flows and it makes sense to direct attention to where the group's strength(s) are.

The "bar" is still pretty low when it comes to id0l rappers. Most of the best id0l rappers don't have solid beats. The track record for guys is severely lacking compared to the 2-3 id0l-lady rappers. K-Hip-Hoppers don't respect id0l rappers either. The bar of competence will probably never be equal, but if it someday hits a high enough point where the K-Hip-Hop community respects at least the skilled id0ls rappers with d0pe beats, that would mean something..it would be a notable moment.
