I think the way kpop is marketed breeds tribalism, unhealthy competitiveness, and identifyling with/feeling connected to idols in an obsessive way. At the end of the day, it's just music and while it's art, it's still a product and fans are consumers.
I’ve come to the conclusion that the hateful users must be so jobless and failing miserably in their own lives that they need to hide behind anonymity, post hateful comments, collect reactions and support from their gang of bullies and that makes them feel like they’ve achieved something because in reality, they have no achievements or accomplishments in their own lives and need to live through an online personal to feel as if they’re popular and worth something.
It’s not just kpop - anime, gamers, sports (especially football yikes) breeds this kind of mentality
At least kpop fans are just crazy online. Sports fan on the other hand.. (flash back World Cup 2021 England VS Italy)

This is true, I have seen this kind of behavior with western stans, and other fans(a little worse tbh).
I dunno. I've seen trolls and rudeness and general crap in a lot of different online communities, but I don't think I've ever encountered quite the level of group bullying behavior that I have seen with kpop. The organized swarming is what really gets me.

Oopss it’s Euro2021 (I don’t follow football sorry)
Pop in general sells a lot for it competitive factor, reflecting on the fans behaviour. And I'm just assuming things, but the outcast kids usually are the ones that get deep into kpop, and make kpop their life. Some fans act really like a cult.
I’ve noticed that too, the ones who obsess over kpop and take things so personally and seriously are usually people who have been seen as outcasts. I guess it’s because they latch onto the weird idol and fan relationship kpop companies push and they develop a very personal, intimate (and unhealthy) relationship with their fave, genuinely believing their fave loves and cares for them in a way that’s not normal so they become hateful if anyone says something slightly negative.
I feel like it also has to do with age
Omg no I didn't even know that you were 13, I just meant that because many Kpop fans are young they can sometimes be immature and not really aware of what they're doing
Some people are just toxic, than they happen to be a fan of any Group.
Already toxic + tribalism = toxic combination, ready to destruct !
