If you think about impactful debuts, all of these happen inside 2014 - 2016? On paper 3rd gen start in 2012, but people still consider AOA 2nd gen group? Even Dreamcatcher originally debut during 2014.
Did 3th gen take theoretically only 3 years for GGs?

this is very complicated but for girl groups it feels 3rd gen started in 2014 with red velvet and MMMO popular groups like twice, gfriend OMG debuted in 2015 and finally blackpink debuted in 2016. AOA, exid, sistar, girl's day are all 2nd gen groups

global expansion of kpop literally made 3rd gen very short for ggs, imo it started with RV in 2014 and when (G)-Idle debuted 4th gen began so basically 4 years???

Only groups that still exist from 2017 is Dreamcatcher and Weki Meki?

yeah but I personally think G idle is more like 3.5 gen even when the members age group is close to other 3rd generation girl groups like twice and bp

idk anymore even some say nct dream is 4th gen idk anymore
-
Maybe 3.5 gen? Ngl this whole kpop generation thing confuses me
yeah they veer more toward 3.5 but definitely still in the same gen overall as twice & bp. It’s similar to apink who debuted in 2011 aka 2.5 gen imo

lol someone said omg is 4th gen once :-D

The 3rd Gen ggs have diversity and different auras. If you only go by that (& sound) then you could always have a different gen every three years, but that’s a weak way to make a distinction. Kpop contracts are 7 years long - a „generation“ shouldn’t go under 7 years then once it started with certain groups…
-
That's why this whole 4th gen things doesn't make much sense, we should just give up on it and call the latest batch of groups 3.5 gen and be done with it
