Do we live in an era where we are afraid to share our thoughts?

  • People want to feel important and the internet provides this opportunity to them. They get angry about everything and they put labels on others for a simple and often harmless opinion.

It's a power game, they want to assert their power on others by doing that and feel like they are better.

Especially when there's a more sensitive issue things are either black and white, you either agree with them 100% or you are a hater or even racist, -phobic. I understand people's anger because of the way the world is but not everyone is an enemy. Not allowing discussion and turning against everyone won't solve a thing.

Plus, in kpop there's this need for it to be a getaway from reality and for ending to be perfect so as for fans to create this perfect bubble for themselves so it's hard for them to accept criticism or that others don't like the same thing.

Having said all that, I have to also say that people tend to abuse their right to express their opinion and they often want to be edgy or be hateful just for their entertainment and that's even worse than those who might react negatively when they read opinions. There's a line and it's often crossed.

This is why I think edginess is worse than taking offense when you read opinions.

  • Yes. While I'm pretty free here in akp I still don't give my honest opinion in same matters bc there will always be 3,4 people quoting me wanting explanation from what I said and it's pretty exhausting.

I think some want to control what others can say and do just bc the world is changing... But trying to shut someone up isn't the best way tbh. Giving opinions and just sharing your true thoughts is what make humans humans.

  • SM has given rise to the echo chamber, both on the left and right. People cant handle opinions different from their own, so they either police them, put them on ignore, or go the extra mile and start trying to cancel them by using the usual catchphrases (commie feminazis, homophobic racist incels, etc).

I usually see this politically correct woke crap the most since i scroll mostly through Twitter, Reddit, etc, and not wherever right wing social media stuff is found. One of the best things about this forum is that i can express my thoughts on stuff like "cultural appropriation" without having to worry about being banned just for having an opinion. Sure i get pushback and even a few insults here and there, but that's expected and we're all adults here, we should all be able to take it lol.

  • Not really, I mean you still see people shitting on groups here.

Now in non music themes, yes, there is kinda a black and white side when it comes to my gen, gen z is wrong when they are gonna cancel you or be extra sensitive over opinions that are not totally 100% politically correct, like example ca or pronouns, but they do have the right point, if they attack you or cancel you when you are being straight queerphobic, mysoginistic, racist, etc. Because then your opinion stop being an opinion/thought and becomes a hate speech that goes through someone else's live. Now when it comes to kpop, mostly latin american stans are the one who does go and cancel/censor you over my first point, when it comes to english speakers or asian, most forget about a week.
