Poor StayC Girls became hot topic due to soldier asking them about performance for military

During a recent 'V Live' broadcast, STAYC members Yoon and J spent time chatting with fans.

Then, one fan commented, "I'm a soldier and I watch 'ASAP' videos at least three times a day. I love you~~~ Please come perform for the military once TTTTTTTT."

Seeing this, Yoon responded, "Wow, the soldiers in the military are watching us. My father is actually a military officer as well. (Sending out a heart) Thank you~~ If it weren't for the pandemic situation, we could have gone to perform there... We want to perform live concerts and stuff, but we can't right now."

However, once Yoon responded to the soldier's comment, numerous other fans began flooding the chat section with disapproving replies. Many of them argued, "Why would you ask a minor to come perform at a military event?", "Minors shouldn't go to those events", "Please don't go girls", "Girl groups who go to military events are prone to sexual harassment", and more.

When fans began to fill the comments section with requests asking STAYC not to perform at military events, Yoon seemed flustered as she quickly assured, "No we're not talking about the military events. I mean just concerts in general. Don't worry."

But soon, Yoon's quick response assuring fans became a topic of criticism on online communities with primarily male netizen participants, including military soldiers. They said, "What does being a minor have to with doing military events? Dumb b******", "Why are they making it seem like the military is forcing innocent girls to perform for men", "Sure, go make money performing at women's universities then", "I liked their song 'ASAP' but I guess it's out of my playlist now", etc.

  • When fans being overprotective and causing more harm than good.

This was a non-issue. Tbh they were the ones who view these events in a sexual way and therefore panicked for no reasons. The soldiers in the chat didn’t sound creepy or thirsty.

Where is the difference between them having a concert and men watching them, them performing on tv and men watching them or performing at the military and men watching. They are minors and men watch them already lol. Unless they think their company would make them perform in inappropriate outfits.

  • wait has a minor ever performed for the military before?

    ie is there precedent ?

The only one I know from scratch are Twice. Some members were still miniors when they performed at a military training camp in 2016

But never did anything in relation to harassment been reported. In most of these videos you just see the soldiers chanting, dancing along or crying lol.

    Maybe I missed something

nice then there is precedent that a top group performed for the military so it ain't a big deal (not that it was before this information either )

  • Yes, if there's anything to learn from the Brave Girls fan-made viral video, it's that the military guys were just having a good time, singing and having fun. So I don't understand where the offense is coming from.

This happens when you make girls/women victims by default because of projection.

StayC has no sexy image, rather if it’s their music, clothing or dancing. Everything about them is so non-sexual. So i question the mindset of those who thought that when they perform in front of men they will only be seen as sex objects by them so they shouldn’t go. This gives me some internalized misogyny vibes disguised as concerns.
