It's a head scratcher
What's the correlation between agencies encouraging fanservice/shipping with members of the same group, having dating bans, fans insisting their idols are virgins, and idols being uncomfortable to interact normally with the other gender in public?

The correlation is that the idols are supposed to stay 'available' for their fans ( in their fan's mind )
- Inconsciously, homosexual relationship are seen as 'less real' by the audience. Blame it on homophobia, but fans won't see this as the idol not being unavailable for them. Usually this 'fanservice' is targetted at straight fans, who thinks the idea of two men or two women is hot, but also just a fantasy that has no ground in reality.
- Dating ban is pretty explanatory. If an idol is dating, they are not devoted to their fans, there is 'part' of them that they are keeping for themselves, 'breaking' the illusion.
- Insisting that their idols are virgin... maybe for GG who have a male fanbase ? I don't really see it all that much to be honest. I think everyone inconsciously knows that if you're hot, famous and rich in your mid-twenty, it's very likely that you are getting some action. But as long as there is no 'face' to this action, it's fine, it doesn't 'really' exists.
- To be honest idols being uncomfortable to interact normally with other genders in public is probably the consequence of all that. Two of them will just look or smile at each others, and oh boy here we are again. They are probably a lot more chill off camera.

Nah, fans aren’t speculating about Idols virginity anymore, this is so 2012, in 2021 they speculate about their sexuality. Kpop fans upgrade themself, but not always to the better lol.
