[RANT] Remember when Ailee got major backlash from the Kpop community for taking a pic with Chris Brown and praising his music?

the fact that the same energy isn't kept...is actually a very good point. I had completely forgot about that situation with her.

When did the Ailee thing happen? Maybe the Chris Brown tea was more fresh on people's minds when Ailee talked about him. He's not headline news anymore so maybe it's not as big a deal if people mention him nowadays.

Yeah it was stupid that it blew up the way it did. At the same time, like Ailee gurl, even me in 3rd grade knew about that scandal. There was no way she "didn't know" that was such a bad lie.

Koreans seem to love him. Sometimes foreign scandals seem so far off tbh. Like you won’t forgive someone in your country for it but since it’s another country and esp America where ppl just assume celebs are criminals it feels not as important to some communities maybe.

I didn't know about it either. I don't follow celebrity news and I'm not from America. I only found out about it last week

ailee was still in the us when the beat the fuck out of rihanna thing happened... using the i didn't know about it excuse just seems flimsy af although i guess it's possible. it's hard to really fault anybody when the whole of the world seems to have swept his constant abuse incidents under the rug, i just wish i could send a memo to every companies telling them cb is a human cesspool and to get their idols to stop mentionning him/using his songs. (yes i still side eye bts for using one of his song during a festa and pray every day they never mention him again)

ailee did get a ton of backlash, could be a lot of reasons including that she's a woman... mostly for me it's because she's american.

i looked up the timeline to make sure, it happened in 2009 and she left for sk in 2010... could have definitely been big news in the rest of the world too, but i can only speak for north america unfortunately and it was everywhere over here. I truly don't think you couldn't know about it so it just made me raise an eyebrow when she used that excuse and then on top of that had a really condescending attitude towards people calling her out.

Why some act as if what happened to Ailee was a long time ago? it was last year. NTM they should've believed her justification. There was no reason for her to post a picture with him if she knew it would affect her reputation. She clarified that she doesn't support any kind of abuse. Which was the only thing that mattered to whether they should cancel her or not. But stans made fun of her for it anyway. This would be different if she had a big strong fandom. This is probably why this 4th gen group you're talking about didn't get the same reaction. Their fans probably would hide it and if someone made a big deal out of it, they would spam posts defending them. Ailee doesn't have that so it'd easier for everyone to jump on the hate. Another reason why I don't take canceling seriously.
