Sadly, it was pretty predictable that “Apt.” wasn’t going to win a Grammy

  • Gangnam Style was indeed a meme more than anything else, so it makes sense for it to not be considered for awards, but nothing else musically from Korea even comes close to its overall impact overseas.

The Grammys are going to look at domestic impact first and foremost, in which case Golden was a bigger hit in the US than APT.

Speaking of which, I found something VERY interesting on Billboard while comparing the two.

Billboard only credits Bruno Mars for APT and not Rose. ^^

  • That's nice and all, but literally no one considers the KMAs to be nearly as prestigious as the Grammys. Ask any recording artist which award they'd rather win and they'll say a Grammy. Hell, even the VMAs have been around twice as long as the KMAs, and no one even watches those anymore.

Wasn't it obvious that the American awards more popular and prestigious than the Korean one? That's why they used the tem "equivalent"?

And why the question of "which award they'd rather win"? It's not like winning one forbidding other.

Anw prestige doesn't matter in this case, the idea is if Kpop acts can't at least win at KMA regularly, they'll have less chance. If even critics in their home country don't take kpop seriously, how will they expected to get positive views from critics of other countries?

  • The Grammys have regularly placed all black artists in the hip hop category. They're just as racist as the people behind them. You just can't expect a racist entity to embrace foreign artists.

Kpop idols have a very frenzied following that absolutely freaks the oldies on top. They are not happy with money being poured into other countries. They also do not want to encourage kpop artists muddying the field and taking over the American scene. They'll use them for mediaplay and views but that's it.
