Display MoreFinished the EP and I highly recommend using good headphones and put the volume up.
I think my favorite on first listen was You and I, but they lied about it being Youngseo focus dor damage control.
I'm starting to see why ADP focuses more on Tarzzan than Woochan. Tarzzan may not be the best lyricist but he has the most charisma in the group. I'm starting to see the vision when I listened to 'Hot' and Medusa. I think he's good at doing the bravado raps that ADP is listening to and he knows how to let you know he's there. I know this type of rap has many detractors but it's kind of like how Carti worked where he's not the best lyricist bu he does have a charsima and energy that draws people to the track. I think what's what they see in Tarzzan and I think it will work. Woochan is for sure the better lyricist but that's not what's always needed when it comes to rap music these days imo.
I think they also have something in Bailey because she might become an all-rounder for the group. Plus, we know she will deliver if given dance breaks like they did with One More Time.
I don't love the project on first listen, but I'm starting to understand why they've made certain decisions. I think it will work because it's something that hasn't really been done in kpop on a mainstream level. They have the members to sell a certain image and style of music that people will enjoy. They will have their detractors, but I see what they're thinking when using Tarzzan and Bailey. I think 'Hot' shows the vision because those are the 2 most charismatic members imo.
Nice review! I agree about the Carti influence at work here on Tarzzan's rapping which will be why it’s so decisive for people. Lots of hip-hop purists hate that style (hence it being nicknamed “mumble rap”) - but for me I love it 😅
I think what this EP has done really well is expand ADP’s sonic scape. After Famous and Wicked you might have expected all their songs to be made of nothing but swag and aura, but they’ve branched out into quite a lot of genres here but made it still sound cohesive.
I feel like TBL are taking risks with ADP and it’s paying off, whereas they are playing it too safe with Meovv and it’s sucking the excitement out of the group (for me) because their songs never seem to surprise me.
