ITZY's Ryujin (real name Shin Ryujin) has signaled her move into acting.
According to our report on the morning of the 6th, Ryujin has been cast as the lead in the independent film ‘Night on Earth’.
'Night on Earth' depicts a society thrown into chaos by the emergence of mutant jellyfish. It follows the story of Soo, a young man who had been hiding in a bathtub to escape life, who encounters people at the illegal clinic Manbok Pension and is forced to confront his existence once more. In the film, Ryujin plays the role of Kang, an employee at Manbok Pension, and has already completed all filming.
Ryujin first gained recognition in 2017 by placing first in the female category on JTBC's audition program ‘Mix Nine’. She later debuted in the music industry in 2019 as a member of JYP Entertainment's group ITZY, gaining popularity with hits like ‘DALLA DALLA’, ‘Wannabe’, and ‘Sneakers’.
Previously, Ryujin had a minor role in director Han Jae-rim's 2017 film ‘The King’ before her debut. She shared a behind-the-scenes story on SBS's ‘Entertainment Tonight,’ saying, “Senior Jo Insung gave me a lot of advice even though I was just a minor character,” adding, “That's when I realized why everyone talks about Jo Insung so much.”
Meanwhile, director Jung Soo-hyun, who directed ‘Night on Earth’, previously won the BH Entertainment Award for this film at the Jeonju Project Awards ceremony, part of the industry program at the 26th Jeonju International Film Festival last May.

Ryujin has some experience in acting, so I'm expecting her to do well. She was cast as the lead actress, so fingers crossed.
Good point and I think she has the looks of an actress. Hopefully this film will be available on streaming platforms for an international audience.
a bit off topic but I wonder if Jihyo will purse acting. I remember she was initially assigned to be an actress and had to fight to be an idol
Yes, fans have been waiting for Ryujin to do more acting.
And, I'm not sure if she is interested, but I hope Jihyo does pursue acting. It'd be fun to watch her.
She’s expressed some interest but unsure how serious . Would be cool to see especially if it’s an action film. I think she would kill it
