They actually have some character, some depth, some sort of feeling, I get something when I look at them.

One is a flat, boring, non genuine smile that looks stupid, while the other has character. Has feeling. Feels happy and silly.
Or the cool ones: 
One has stupid sunglasses with a stupid smile and the other is BLUE! with cool sunglasses and that little haughty almost smirk.

While I admit that new one gets a nice dead look, it still has nothing on the old one. The smile vs the frown, the purple, cmon people.

Also, retro has judgy. Must I explain further? O_o
The only thing I give to new is clown, and we have a Pepe for that
